I am going to look into those IVYS. They look pretty good. A little pricey maybe but you usually get what you pay for! I will wait for this new replacement rod to show up and see how strait it is before deciding on anything. I thank everybody for their comments and keep them coming.

I really like the Dewey Copper Eliminator Series rods. NO brass or copper bearing parts on the rods, jags and brushes. Makes sure when you see blue on the patch, it came from the barrel.

I don't see much discussion of them on these forums, but I like the Otis system. No hard rods, just a coated cable or bore snake. And as they say, you can pull a tighter patch than you can push with a rod.

Plus, I can roll up the cable with tip installed and place it with a few patches in a ziplock bag or a small plastic container and take them with me anywhere.

Just recently re-barreled my 284 and went from a 30 inch to a 32 inch barrel only to realize my cleaning rod will not work. I have been running Pro-shot cleaning rods for a few years and find them excellent but they only make a 42 inch rod, I need a 48 inch. I ordered one from a reputable maker but is not even close to being straight. They are replacing it free of charge with another one. If this one comes through crooked I will be looking to go with a different brand. I would like your opinions on the best cleaning rods out there. Thanks

It is not so difficult to make one yourself.
You can buy a 4 mm piano wire of the suitable lenght. That can be found in modelling shops.
As far as the piano wire cannot be threaded, it is necessary to weld a bolt of the same diameter in the end which is going to hold the terminals, i.e. brushes, etc...
On the other end, just weld a nut and give it a round shape. That is for the handle.
You can buy any handle of your choice and make a thread to hold a long-enough-bolt inside.
Make a hole in the bolt to allow the 4 mm wire to go through.
You can insert a couple washers between the rod and the bolt; then place the bolt in the handle.
Next is to buy a teflon hose, 4mm inner/6mm outer diameter. You will never ever have a better coating for any rod. That is available in pneumatic hardware shops.
Use the terminals of your choice.

Ivy. Denny(Phillips) got the approval of Clarence Ivy(pretty sure on first name) to start making the rods as Ivy once had.

They all bend inside the bore with pressure and a perfect bore guide won't stop that from happening. None are perfectly straight either. The question becomes, what do you want rubbing on the bore of your barrel. Coated rods inevitably get grit in them, and they become like sand paper. If you ever have had a tight patch and hit the handle with the palm of your hand(or worse), the rod WILL beat on the lands.

The one I bought that I am waiting on a replacement from the maker was not even close to being straight. While I don't expect it to be 100% straight, it would be nice if it was at least close.It was not damaged in shipping it to me,they had it packed very well. When spun lightly from the handle it was obvious that it was way out of whack. The maker is going to hand pick a good one from their inventory and it send it to me,should be getting it soon. Just kind of makes a fellow wonder about quality control.

A bent or not so straight cleaning rod is extremely easy to straighten.

If I could get a 45-50" Tipton for a 6/6.5 I would still be using one. I have bent two Bore-stix yes...likely me at fault), had a handle on one disintegrate, bearings not spin free on another. I have a 15+ year old Tiptons for a 22-250 and .17 Remington that still work great.

However, I have a couple of Ivy's on order...

I got a length of 1" sch 40 pvc, glued a cap on one end and threaded cap the other. No more bent rods.

Update on my cleaning rod dilemma. I received a new replacement rod in the mail today from the manufacture. From all appearances it is straight and true. All I will say is the manufacturer name ends with a Y. When I called with my complaint they were quick to want to remedy the situation. I appreciate their quick response. Thanks to everybody that responded to my question.
