Best cleaning bore guide w o-rings for the $$

I like the PMA. I get two rod bushings per bore guide and have to rods set up for whatever rifle Im using so I dont have to worry about swapping brush and jag back and forth on one cleaning rod... cost a little more upfront but sure makes the cleaning chore a little easier. I had no trouble getting the right bore size in the bore guide bushings. No complaints on any of the PMA products I have tried....

PMA is much more precise than the Creedmoor Sports or Possum Hollow guides. Lucas guides are just as nice as PMA Tools but I don't think they make them any more.

21st Century makes great bore guides. O-rings for the chamber and one to center the guide in the action. Also has a metal ring that helps pull the guide from the action. Very happy with mine.

I own PMA, Boretech, and Creedmoor sports. bore guides. Using a Borescope after cleaning I’ve never found any damage after using any of them. If I did I certainly wouldn’t use them.

Do you really think that you can spot minor wear in the throat that does not involve scratching? For purposes of this forum (accurate shooter) I always speak to issues as if fine accuracy is the goal. Very slight damage will show up over time on targets, and may not be seen with a bore scope. On the other hand if you are talking about lower standards of accuracy, from rifles that are not capable of fine accuracy, then that may be another thing.

Boyd that’s what surprised me about the Possum Hollow. With that extra little piece that goes in the end of the regular guide to fit and act as a rod guide, its not bad. Of course not Lucas and PMA good, but I think it’s acceptable if a guy is paying attention.

What is the extra part? All I see on the site is the regular guides and the add on part that has a solvent port. I'm not seeing a any rod guides. I'd like to get one to make sure I'm not having any wear on my throat.

I have seen where he will furnish that piece but have not seen it advertised and because of that incorrectly assumed that you were talking about using one without it. With that additional piece I see no reason why his guides would not work as well as the others who I know make all of their guides with that additional part.

Of course accuracy is the goal. However even with the 4.25” insert in the PMA the rod will still ride on the bottom of the bore guide (or any side/top) when it exits. No different from either of my other bore guides. How would the others induce any wear that the PMA wouldn’t ? Here’s a pic of the PMA with insert installed .

I don't know the particulars of your application. Is the guide for a caliber that is .30 or larger. Frankly the only reason that I can see for that loose of a fit would be that the piece was made for a .30 cal. rod. I believe that my Lucas guide has a much better fit on the rod, and in fact he asks what rod you are using when you order the guide. I have two kinds of guides, Lucas and some that Chet Whitebread made a long time back that resemble a cross between an early Jones and a Bore Saver. Both work well, and even so I am careful with my rod technique.

I guess 3rd grade show-n-tell here.
PH 17 to.26 solvent port on a ProShot .22 to .26 rod.
Then the fine Lucas rod guide on the same cleaning rod.99225249-A87C-42D4-83CA-AFDCC4829791.jpeg

Just call PMA, you won’t be sorry.
