Best Chronograph-

Hi Everyone,
I've only been reloading for one year, and need a chrono.
Can you pros point me at a good chrono?
I'm going on a prairie dog hunt in June and am working up a 22-250 load- and have been advised by my 6PPC friends to get a chrono.

Also, tonight, I'm going to an Elk Foundation Dinner/Auction, and they might have a chrono for auction-- but I want to be sure I get a good one--

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!!
--Will "introduce" myself with next post- but had to get this out since the dinner is in 3 hours!

Oehler 35P, if you can find one--they're no longer in production.

Most people seem to think the CED Millenium is the next choice down the ladder.

If you have serious bucks, the new German PVM-21 is state of the art. It offers built-in infrared capability and a full PC interface with very sophisticated software.

One of our members put a round through the circuit board of the club's chrono last fall. It was one of those cheap $100 jobs iirc, two sets of antennae. The event will be fondly commemorated at the club's Award's banquet next month. lol.

What qualities make one chrono better? I have looked and read. Its electronic switch on---switch off---calculate...

I have a Chrony and come up with some extreme,100+fps) differences in the same load. Is it my loading,22-250) with out a 2/100th scale? Is it neck tension? Or is it the chrony. **NOTE** there is no all of the above answer. Some one did a comparison recently and as I recall the chrony showed progressively faster with progressive shots.

I don't care if it calculates a few FPS fast or slow as long as it is consistant. A bullet drop at range and backwards ballistics will solve that.

I've asked this before and got good answers. Temp of barrel, fouling rounds, clean bore so I have worked on all of those.

I'v had a pro-tech for years, made by Competition Electronics. It's a 1 pc. unit with a digital read out on the face. Except for running a 300 Wby mag round through it, it's been great. CE replaced it $25, can't beat that. I like it because it's a 1 pc. unit, no wires or remote readouts. Cabela's has them on sale right now for $100. Don't think you can go wrong. Don't forget the tripod.

Thanks for all the advice!
Unfortunately no Chrony at the Rocky Mtn Elk Dinner last night- blew my raffle tickets not getting a gun rest!
Oh well-- we did raise 45k for the Elk Foundation.
Thanks,
Bob
