Cats in my state are considered wild animals feral,if cats respond to my call on private property they get shot,if you care about your cat keep em on your property.I've lost literally thousands of dollars from ferals killing game chickens,pheasants etc. No quarter given here.

Don't want to get into a peeing contest over domestic cats, but where I hunt, all the farmers have unlicensed cats, and they are "feral" in the sense that they roam the fields like predators searching for prey, mostly birds, mice and yearling rabbits. See them all the time.

I don't like them at all but shooting them is a sure way to lose your hunting privileges on the farms where I hunt.

PETA stands for people eating tasty animals lol. We don't have coyotes here but we have the old red fox 223 and 308 sorts them out when we're on paddock patrol

I'm so sure that the farms I've hunted now for years, I would shoot their cats if I knew they had them,which I do know. Have you ever raised pheasants and game roosters for money and had stray cats decimate the young chicks,etc,I have and will shoot on sight any cat on my property. THX

Why? Someone's pet can take out just as many birds as a feral cat.

If you cannot control your pet cat, it must take its chances.

I think we're talking about two different scenarios here. I just shot a ten pound feral tomcat that was trying to get into my chicken coop. My property.

If I was hunting in somebody else's back forty, I wouldn't hit the kill button the instant Sylvester sauntered out of the barn.

Does the Ohio regs make an exception for catching the collared feral animal in the act of destroying ones livelihood? Or would the local Sherif just recommend practicing the three S approach?

The law allows you to kill a feral cat i.e. a cat that has no owner. BY the same token if a pet cat kills your chickens, the cat's owner is responsible for damages.

I have used 22 mag, 223, 243, and shotguns. My preference is something you will see the hit in the scope. A 223 is just fine with heavier bullets and a longer barrel. I retired the lightweight 243 cuz I didn't always see the hit or miss. I think a lot of complaints about 223 are due to a 16" AR with lousy factory ammo.

I suspect 22BR, 22 ARC, or 223 AI loaded hot would be ideal for me. Too little time and money to find out though...

Buy a good quality PCP air rifle in 22 caliber. Mine is 22 caliber, shoots 40gr HP's at 1000fps. Same as a 22lr, but there are no laws with the sound "Moderator" not a suppressor. Mine will hold 2" at 100yds for 5 shots. I have killed several Rockchucks (groundhogs to you easterners) out to 150yds with one shot.

No noise, no recoil, and premium slugs are about seven to ten cents each. Air is free.

A suppressed. 223 with a 40 gr V-max at about 3750 fps is a deadly combination and not to loud. Very flat shooting and rarely an exit hole. This will be my main rifle this winter when the yotes come close trying to take out my crazy Tom cat. Let the games begin.
