Best .22 Cartridge to run 90gr Berger VLD's

Trevor60,

I have a good friend that really likes the 6mmSLR case also but I am a little concerned with the brass issues that have been brought up. If factory brass became available for this round, I would be all over it. My gut tells me that it should perform well in a 20" barrel.

Thanks,
Jim

Centershot,

I am not wanting a barrel/throat burner, I want it to last. The 22-250 doesn't seem to get much attention anymore but I have a 26" barrel factory gun that consistently shots sub 3/8" MOA, but I don't know how it will perform at 20"

Thanks,
Jim

Centershot,

The .223 & .223AI both are real possibilities. Whichever cartridge I decide on, chances are that I will have Dave at PT&G build a reamer with the neck and throat specs that I desire.

Thanks again,
Jim

I have a standard 22/250 with 1-7 twist and with 90 gr. Sierra BTHP I wouldn't trade it for a 'Blue-Nosed Mule'!!

TAJ45,

The reason I want to utilize a shorter barrel is because a 7" suppressor will be attached to it. This gun will be used for both predator hunting and bench shooting but my emphasis is on a easy to carry, very accurate predator hunting rifle.

I have a 26" 22-250 with a 26" barrel that shoots 55gr bullets excellent but it is very hard to carry along with all my other predator hunting equipment.

Another cartridge that has been mentioned is the 22 creedmoor but I haven't found a lot of information about it.

I am by no means an expert on reloading but I have an idea of what I am hoping to end up with as a predator hunting rifle. I built a short barreled 308(16-1/4") and a 20" 260rem and both are excellent shooters but for some reason I think I need a short barrel .22 caliber rifle. Probably is all in my head but I enjoy tinkering with oddball stuff.

Thanks,
Jim
