Berry's or Extreme plated bullets?

What is your take on Berry's or Extreme plated 9mm bullets?
My opinion is the Extremes have a better plating. I've noticed on the Berry's the plating tears easier than on the Extremes.

Ive shot 10's of thousands of Xtreme 9mm and continue to load them on my automated 1050 monthly. I have zero issues with them, they shoot great. The Xtreme pricing is great, especially around black friday.. I shoot their 124 HP, 147 and 165 subs

Since Precision Bullets closed, I started using Xtreme plated on the recommendations of many fellow competitive IDPA shooters. They load and shoot without issue. I have zero experience with Berry's.

I've been shooting Berry's 350gr plated bullets in my 45-70 and have found them to be surprisingly accurate.

I've shot thousands of Berry's 115s in 9mm and 230 45s in competition and practice. Never unhappy with them. I've shot the Extreme's in 45 as well, they used the same load and were just as consistent as the Berry's. No problems recommending either bullet.

I have loaded and shot boxes and boxes of both in everything semi-auto: 380, 9mm 45acp. Everything from 95gr Round Nose to 230gr RNFP. I am now pretty much exclusively shooting hand cast lead in everything.

Now if/when I go back it will most likely be with RMR jacket bullets. They cost out at about the same rate as either of the plated.

It seems each gun will like or dislike plated bullets. But if your pistol likes them they will be good. The important thing with any plated bullet is to not over crimp them. That will damage the plating and they will group like a shotgun!

With the quality of coated bullets being so good now days, I rarely shoot plated bullets anymore.

Take a look at RMR or Everglades Ammo for jacketed bullets. I shot Berry’s and Extreme’s plated for years. I started loading 9mm and compared prices. The jacketed bullets we’re about the same price.

I’ve used Extreme and Berry’s in my 45 ACPs, 40 S&W and 9mm and they have shot well in all of them

Shoot a few shots of plated loads at 7-10' into white paper, if you see markings other than the bullet hole your crimp/seating is damaging the plating.

Not super relevant but fwiw Missouri Bullet Co offers a 100 count sampler pack of any of their bullets so you can try them before buying 500.

I use both of them and considered them equal. Try some Zero bullets they are good too.

After loading thousands and thousands of berry plated bullets the only problem I run into and so has many other shooters some right here.... If you shoot them out of Glock pistols expect to see about one and ten to have a crazy flyer....The rifling in the barrel is different and you're not supposed to shoot lead bullets through it.... The berry bullets are lead bullets that have a simple coating on them....

That being said I pretty much own nothing but Glock pistols and have put tens of thousands of berry bullets down them and the only problem I have encountered is that crazy flyer.... There's no load data last time I checked but here's some pointers for ya if needed....

1. Load Berry bullets with lead data.... I always have and my speeds are on par....

2. You have to load a longer COAL for 9 mm I load out at 1.150 - 1.160.... Berry used to want 1.150 but last time I checked they moved it out to 1.160.... I always have used 1.150 and still do... This helps with the pressure since the bullets are sized at .356 instead of .355 like a fmj..

3. You don't need a hot bullet to practice with so don't worry about that , the paper knows no difference.... You will save some money and wear and tear on you and the pistol.... Most my reloads are a little slower both rifle and pistol and are always way more accurate than factory practice crap or even hunting rounds for rifle...

In closing , there are better bullets for just a little more money most of which are plated.... There's also companies putting out real fmjs for a little bit more than that.... In the end like everything else you get what you pay for.... Sometimes though you just don't need great , good will work and you can save a few bucks...
