Bergera rifles

I really liked the looks and the price of the B14 HMR. So I bought one. Did extensive load development and couldn’t find a load that shot less than about 1 MOA. I sold the rifle. However, lots of people are satisfied with these rifles.

That's a bummer. Did you reach out to the factory?

My HMR in 6.5 Creedmoor consistently shoots around .6MOA, both with cheap Hornady and handloads.

Glad you are happy with yours. They are nice little rifles.

I did not reach out to the factory. A friend of mine wanted the rifle so I sold it to him for about what I paid for it. He’s happy with it.

People seem to give good reviews on reddit, my only issue is the lack of remage offerings for the system. Similar price range rifles like RPR or Tikka T3 CTR have after market barrel options. So unless Criterion decides to starts cambering for Bergara coned bolt face then I would not recommend it to a friend wanting to get into the sport unless they made it clear they will never burn through the barrel.

They can put a barrel on it anytime- maybe not in their living room- but a gunsmith can still change one just like any other.

Sure but if you are buying a Bergara instead of a full custom rifle then you are likely budget conscious and a blank + a smith install is likely to cost more than a remage from Criterion.

Is bergara considered in the same budget class as other entry level rifles? I thought they were 2x the cost of budget minded stuff.

The B14 HMR is the most popular one I see people purchasing and it is around 1K, similar to a Tikka CTR or a Ruger Precision Rifle.

Oh ok. Ive seen all these in gun shops and they looked to be $1400+. I thought we were talking about just regular rifles where the bergara is like $1000 and a savage or remmy is @$500-600

It certainly is not entry level but that 2 or 300 $ difference between a button rifled prefit and a cut rifled shouldered barrel by a smith may still influence the decision to buy the rifle or not to buy the rifle.

I have been seeing a lot of people on reddit showing off their new Bergara rifles so it wouldn't surprise me if someone started offering prefits for it but ATM I don't think anyone has them.

Wouldnt be a problem at all for a gunsmith or any machine shop to make a nut then anybody with the knowledge could spin up a prefit. Im sure any of the mfrs of prefits would make one if you provided the dimensions

Same level as rpr and savage. Change the barrel on any of them tho, square the front bolt face and lap the back lugs and it becomes a tack driver. if that’s the case tho, I think the rpr’s are the better of them because the barrel change is user friendly, and all the barrel makers make prefits from kreiger, benchmark and lri etc... But off the shelf, I’d chose savage if I did not want to sink any money into it. I had a .223 savage that I sold to a friend, and I am amazed after thousands of rounds and 20 years the think still shoots 3/8 with factory ammo on regular basis. I am not saying they are not good, just think for the money there may be a few better options

I paid 750 for a b14 hunter. With factory ammo it’s at 1 to 1.5 Moa give or take depending on how much money I pay for the ammo lol. Ive done a good deal of load development with different bullets and powders and have some pretty tight sub .5 groups with a few different combos. For me it depends on the chambering and intended use whether I’d recommend a particular gun. The b14 is a 700 clone which is a huge plus for me. If I’m spending over 1k on a gun it ain’t going to be an over the counter that’s for sure!! Mines also seen a new stock, glass bedding, and I did extensive barrel break in by shooting a lot of bullets through the barrel, cleaning, then shooting again lol. Soooo what are you wanting to do is the main question. A good friend has the same gun I do and he’s happy with it but he only shoots factory ammo and I’m not sure how he “determines” which guns he likes.

What are your opinions of bergera rifles.
A bud who owns a shop handed me a 6.5 creed, scope, rings and a couple boxes of ammo. A couple shots got it to the bull. The next 3 went in the same hole with factory Hornaday ammo. Impressed, very smooth action as well.

Just out of curiosity.... what was the distance? What scope? And what type of rest? I’m assuming it was the ridge model and not the hunter b14

Only 100 yd sight in stuff, scope was a upper end Leupold, not sure of the model as I'm not a Leupold guy but it tracked and was very clear. Didn't look at the model on the Beraga either but it wasn't a low end rifle. I can find out as another guy wanted it worse than he did. The rest was $125 special off of Bullets.com when they were closing shop. Rear bag is a Protector. Not fancy equipment but decent quality.
