Berger Bullets?

Is there a difference between the 185 gr Match Juggernaut target and the 185 gr Juggernaut OTM tactical bullets?

meplats perhaps, in the 230's the OTM has a smaller meplat than the MATCH, just sayin

I've shot both 230 bullets and did not see a significant meplat diameter difference. I pointed and trimmed both, so examined them in some detail. The 230 OTM has a much shorter ogive with a smaller radius than the Target bullet. I only shot several hundred OTM's from one lot but thousands of Targets from five lots.

These are the same bullet. This is done so that it can be shown that they are a good match bullet, and as a tactical bullet where it is needed to show it this way for tactical purposes. This also means that if you cannot find the bullet in the yellow boxes, you can go ahead and use the bullet from the beige boxes and be good to go.

What "tactical purpose" does a "tactical bullet" serve that a plain pedestrian cannot.

It has to do with purchasing requirements and contract specs from some agencies.

Recon they didn't use bullets before the tactitard craze came along.

As some of you are aware, there are agencies that require "packaging" to denote that the bullet is for tactical purposes. At the same time, if we find that the bullet is also a good product to bring to all of you for the attributes that you need in a good target bullet, we feel that this is something that we owe to all of you as well. This is why they will be in the yellow boxes as a target bullet. But most of you are aware that all Berger Bullets are made to the same match quality standard regardless of the intended application.

I'm guessing that you meant .043", not .43" ? Bergers will vary lot to lot, but I can't imagine that much.

If I recall correctly, the "Juggernaut OTM Tactical" is supposed to have a slightly heavier jacket to increase the bullets durability in penetrating certain barriers (windows, etc). Something not encountered in competition where jacket uniformity is paramount.

Unless someone actually "peels" a bullet from each and weighs the jacket material, or Berger comes out with a definitive answer, this topic will be ruled by "conjecture" and "opinions".

Mr. Blaine, The Berger 6.5 Hunting 140 and the 140 Target seem to measure the same and, for me, shoot the same. I presume there is only a difference in structure?

You are correct. The Hunting VLD, as described above, has a slightly thinner jacket than its Target equivalent. This thinner jacket aids in terminal performance for hunting applications. Dimensionally, they are the same.
