berger bullets on game

just had to post my score with berger bullets this year. one big deer shot at 402 yds with 300 rum 210 berger at 3150 and bullet stopped on far hide and weighed 157gr and it hit no bones! deer deed in tracks. I then went out of state and got deer with 25-06 shooting 115 bergers at 3105. shot deer in heavy brush at 18 yds. found bullet on far side hide and it still weighted 45grs and no meat loss!i will never shoot another bullet period!

I have been using bergers in my hunting rifles now for 4 years and have had great success with them. I have reloaded them for me and my brothers 7 mags. To date, 1 mountain goat, 6 antelope, several deer and elk. All have died where they were shot or only taken a few steps and fell, very impressed with their terminal performance. Loaded a 243 up with them now and so far 2 antelope and a big red bear with the 105's and each one shot kills.

So basically a bullet that hit nothing but one side and lungs with no bones lost 25% of it's mass at 400 yards.

Yea, just wait till you hit a shoulder. I'll stick with Noslers or Sierras

I have been more than happy with Bergers.
105 vld out of 6x47 Lapua
110yds
235yds
225+ Hog
All dead in there tracks
The deer both had 1.0"-1.5" exit holes

Well I used a 6.5 284 shooting 140gr Berger VLD's on an oryx hunt a couple years back. Oryx are notoriously tough and their vitals sit right behind the front shoulder so you literally have to shoot them through it. Also their lungs are attached to the inside of their chest cavity so what happens to a lot of bonded bullet shooters, is the round punches a hole through, knocks them down and they get up an run off because their lungs don't collapse like most North American mammals. One Berger from 175 yards through the shoulder dropped a big bull in his tracks. When we dressed him out his lungs looked like cherry jello. I can tell you for a fact that no Nosler Partition, or Sierra game king had come close to that amount of damage to the chest cavity with that little meat loss. Another somewhat bizarre twist was that, afterwards, while cutting up steaks off his front shoulder I hit something hard with my knife blade. After digging it out I realized it was a perfectly mushroomed .30 cal bullet from some past year. Didn't seem to slow that sucker down.

E here. I love the 140 Berger out of my 7 mag. They ate made to shed a lot of weight for trauma. I shot my buck last year at 350~ and he was done right there. Here's the skinned carcass

trust me, they plow right through shoulders too. Go ahead and shoot a few animals with Berger VLD's before you disrespect them.

Nosler used to be my brand. I "SKEPTICALLY" used Berger one year since my father-in-law's cousin kept talking up his succes with them in a 7mm Rem Mag.
After my first few kills with 140gr Berger VLD's in a 6.5 Rem Mag to verify that the performance was consistent, I never went back to anything else. Now I have over 13 kills with Berger 6.5mm 140gr VLD's and still no reason to ever think of going back to any other bullet.

This year I am taking the 250gr Elite Hunter VLD bullets into the field with my 338-375 Ruger. Gonna be fun! Pretty sure everything they touch will be DRT! :)

Bull elk at 546yds hit with a 168gr Berger VLD 7mm rem mag. One shot and it went 5yds. It was a Boone and Crockett 331" 6X6 bull.

Has anyone used a hybrid on game? Specifically the 300 gr .338?

I would not hesitate to use them if I were you. 300gr of any Berger bullet will surely equal meat in the freezer ;)

Look at my post about the 200 grain hybrid from a 300 Wby at 3000 fps. Very poor results. I have had good luck with VLDs. I have guided a lot of guys who use them and have seen some great results. Didn't like the results with a 270 WSM on a 600# bear- just too much fat for the bullet to get through I think but 4 shots later it finally died! Every deer or elk I have seen hit dropped or only went a few short yards until this 200.

I have used the first generation which I think is an elite not hybrid. My 11 year old grandson shot a buck last year at 547 yards with 338 Lapua IMP. It was raining slightly and the deer was wet. Watched the wash go in and water exploded from the hide. Watched the whole thing through a set of Kowa Highlanders at 32X. Deer dropped like a rock and there was expansion on the bullet, it left the deer but the exit hole was around an 1.5 inches. Go to longerangehunting.com and open the forums on left. Then open up the long range hunting and shooting threads and look there. Open up lets see your Berger kills. Lots of pictures and stories of Berger kills. Also try the Extreme long range threads.

I shot a small white tail doe at about 40yds with a 25-06 loaded with 115gr berger vld's. It went through the first shoulder and blasted a basketball size whole where the other shoulder used to be. Didn't find any part of the bullet anywhere, and had to leave the front quarter in the woods with the gut pile.
