Berger bullets .308??

I know its different in all rifles but what 185g berger bullet do you prefer for long distance. Thx

1.Match Vld target?
2. Match juggernaut?
3. Match hyberd ?

If the price does not bother you, the Bergers are all great. I used the Juggernauts in Palma loads for a while but in the end decided that for me, as a sling shooter, the extra recoil of the 185s did not gain enough in wind bucking ability and went back to the 155.5 Fullbores. There is nothing wrong with the Sierras, they work well. You do gain noticeable increases in BC with the Bergers and thus slightly flatter trajectories and slightly less wind deflection.

The 185 Juggernaut is the one to start with. Whats the barrel length and twist rate ? What distance are you going out to? Is magazine feeding an issue?

As was mentioned, all rifles are different, and your mileage may differ, but for a number of F-T/R shooters in this area the "standard" load is 185 Juggernauts and Varget.

#30107 185 OTM Juggernauts, RL15 to 2690fps, .015 jump, .308 Lapua Palma cases, CCI450's, Benchmark barrel 3 groove 28.9" 11" twist. Just shot HM LR F/TR here in Oregon for my re-intry into highpower shooting from a 30yr hiatus. I'm sold on the Juggernauts.

Hybrids have worked well for me. I have not tried the VLD or the Juggs.

.015"-.020" off the lands is the sweet spot for the Jugs for many people. If nothing else, it's a good place to start and then adjust to find the specific seating depth the rifle wants.

Is that 2.815 coal or 2.785? Thx

It all depends on what YOUR rifle likes. Start at .015 off and work back. Use the lowest powder charge listed for your bullet/powder/ cartridge combination you are testing for. Then once you find that work your load back up to find the velocity sweet spot YOUR rifle likes. There are no free lunches here guys. You have to test. Its worth the work. Juggernauts.

I started with these for my new F-T/R rifle (with a 30" long Krieger 11-5R barrel) and tried different loads (all Varget) and seating depths. Finally, I settled on 44.20 gr Varget and 0.017" jump, which in my case is 2.310 CBTO. The average speed is 2757 with an ES of 11 for 10 rounds measured with a MagnetoSpeed.

Those shot well apparently at the 44 to 44.2 charge seated 15-20 off the lands. Most people seem to end up right there regardless with great success

Do that in a rifle with a short throat and you can blow primers on a hot day, even with Varget. I did it several yrs ago with a 43.5 charge before I got my own reamer. It really depends on your throat. If you are seating at mag length (2.845 or so) you are filling a whole lot of case volume with the tail of the bullet.
