Berger 25 caliber 82grain?

I recently picked up 300+ 82 grain .257 bullets that are labeled as bergers. I haven't seen any information regarding these so I have no idea what exactly they are. They are packaged in a berger box with 22cal and 62 gr on one box 65 on another box but are crossed out with 25 and 82gr. Seemed the tape was original. I could be wrong.

I opened one of the "original" boxes and found .257 bullets and 82 gr weights. They are flat base hollow point. I'm confused haha any insight I to what they are would help.
Thank you.

Jameson

I had some 17cal Berger bullets that were in similar boxes and labels….I'm just guessing but they’re probably pretty old stock from long before Berger became commercialized like it is today. Probably a limited run and they just used a label they had on hand

Pretty sure Berger had an 82 .257 but discontinued it as some point in the last 20 years or so.

I remember having an 87 and a lighter 80 something.

Haha thanks for the advice! I'll make sure to save my components on the trash. My next question is starting loads I'd assume finding some data for 85s or 80s and start from there

Use 80 grain data to start and you should be in the ballpark. Probably stay under max by a few percent for sure until you work up.

Several of us shot 25's in BR competition. 25BR and 25 American. 79-80+ gr. something weight bullets. I have Jef Fowlers 25 caliber dies and a pile of jackets. J-4 stopped making short jackets and that ended that. The 110 gr. shot very well. I have some medium length jackets that would make dandy 90 gr bullets.

Jef made some VERY accurate 110gr bullets, as well as the lighter ones with the same dies and jackets. I shot them over 3600fps and under 1/4moa out there past 1/4 mile.. My only documented Rockchuck kills past 1000 yards (in front of witnesses) were with those bullets. I still have a couple hundred left. 1017 yards was the longest one.

Dave, thank you for the D-Day reference. My Father went over Normandy in a Glider as a member of the 82nd Airborne.

This post is from an email form a member of capstone regarding the 82gr flat base hp bullets

"We have no information anymore on this bullet. We can say that these most likely were manufactured by Walt Berger in his garage many years ago and can be used for either target or hunting"

I think that is pretty cool. I did load up a couple with imr4451 52gr and 52.5 and velo was 3525-3550. Checking for pressures as there is no data. Should be able to get to 3600+ and hope for good accuracy once things get settled in with a new baby and all.
