Berger 20 cal. 55grain bullets

A good move on someone's part. Makes it worthwhile for Berger and puts guaranteed profit in a purveyor's hand.

It seems that someone at Berger would have had the forethought to approach one of the big retail players and offered this option, avoiding the negative press and vibes rippling through the consuming community. :-/

I was contacted an ask will these bullets move in the market I said ain't no doubt Graf took this journey to try an get these Berger 20 caliber bullets so we 20 cal. owners need to help them move them I don't foresee a issue at all help these folks with fast twist barrels so they get the best out of their build.

I know Berger says you need a 8tw. but they dont calculate throat wear into the equation and I here reports of people tearing up bullets after 300 rounds.

Per Berger, even at 3700 fps, if you are using a 9tw you'll need to be over 7400 ft in elevation to get the maximum BC of these 55 grainers. They may still shoot well for you, but per Berger's information, you will not attain the maximum BC of this bullet. Extra velocity helps much less than does higher elevation.

[QUOTE="7315br, post: 37493757, I also had my 20/250 with me. (276) rd count on a Kreiger 1:10 twist. It's had nothing but the 55 gr Berger through it. I tried H-4350 for the first time. Three shot group of .176" at a 100 yds. Range elevation was 4800' altitude. Velocity was just over 4,000 fps average and no problems with poofs, and the accuracy is definitely there! Large case 20's that are used at the higher elevations seem to work well with 10 twist barrels. Hopefully they will last longer without tearing bullets up due to the slower rpm the 10 twist offer. I have tried 11-twist in the past with the 55 gr Berger at high speed. Doesn't work! Just my $.02 worth. 7315br[/QUOTE]

H4350 w/55's in a 20-250 delivering over 4000fps, you must be loading around 39-40gr of H4350 in your 20-250 w/55's then.

I tested a 8 twist in a 20 br improved an after 3600 the bullets came apart at about 20 foot in front of muzzle 70 degree temperature at 800 feet elevation went back to work an chambered up a 9 twist didn't look back 18 1/2 minutes to a 1000yds shoots about 3 inch group if I do my part.being we like the 20 calibers so well an are doing show an tell like to show my 20 comet an 20 Dasher shooting at 600 an a 1000 yd benchrest.

B23, not quite that much...but close. Just starting to get a little stiff bolt lift. I would like to have a load that stays around 3850 fps for better barrel life. I've always agreed with your comments on elevation being more critical to the barrel twist than speed, but from my experience the 55gr Berger will easily go a 1000 yds with the 10-twist Kreiger (a couple of PD's last summer beyond a 1000 yds with this rifle). To me the question to all this barrel twist discussion with the 55 gr Berger and larger capacity case 20 cals...is how long the barrel life is for 8,9, or 10 twist barrels. There has been a lot of talk about 55 gr Berger bullets starting to come apart after 300 rds or so with higher speed 20 calibers and 1:8 twist barrels. I hope to settle that discussion "in my mind" in Wyoming this summer as my 20/250 goes past this magic 300 rds...LOL! As they say " the proof is in the pudding"! 7315br

That's not information I came up with, it's directly from Berger and I'm going to just assume they know what their talking about.

I, Berger, and others aren't denying their 55's won't stabilize and shoot well in slower twist barrels, but just because it shoots well doesn't mean you are achieving the full calculated BC of the bullet.

My 20-250 wears a 26in. Krieger 8tw barrel, I originally wanted it in a 28in. but Krieger will not make a .20cal longer than 26 inches. Knowing these won't be long for barrel life, I ordered two barrels at the same time so when it goes south, I've got another ready and waiting. This is mine. I'm getting 3660 and not running them particularly hard. That's at 2000ft elevation and no issues with them coming apart, in fact it shoots VERY well with that load.

I shot a 1.1 and a 1.4 at Memphis with a 1:9. It was only 600 yards.

Ha, that's funny, no 3660 is just a reasonable pressure load. Many of you choose to load excessively high pressure loads, get crazy fast speeds as the result of it with smaller, sometimes even much small, case capacity cartridges, then, and this is my favorite, say and that's with no pressure signs. LOL I have no problem if someone chooses to run their stuff at beyond redline pressures, but lets not pretend you're achieving those velocities any other way, because you're not.

I agree with the accuracy node around that 3750 Stan, I shot a .078 3 shot group with mine there. Could I do it again I dont know but I saved the target LOL.
