Berger 105 VLD's: Orange versus yellow

I'm stumped.

Berger produces 6mm 105's VLD's with identical catalogue numbers one comes in an orange box and the other is in yellow. The orange box has a little thing in it that says they are using the orange box to remind shooters that they are good for hunting too.

These bullets with ostensibly the same product numbers are completely different. Yes, I have confirmed that they are both VLD's, but I have done a comparator measurment of the orange box stock and have come out with a base to ogive measurement of .523" and the yellows are .503!

The bullet OAL from the orange boxes are 1.239" wheras the yellows are 1.223"

Needless to say, this has required a complete re-do on my load development!

WTF???

Dog gone man. My last Orange box base to ogive measures .633 and OAL of bullet is 1.237. That is quite a bit of difference. Bill

Everytime I order bullets they are a little bit different due to die wear, jackets, etc. That is why I buy 20-30 boxes at a time to get the same lot number.
I like things being consistant too and that is the only way I've found to maintain it. I know that's a lot of money to shell out all at once, but the way bullet prices are going up I'm wishing the last time I ordered,$19.00 per hundred)I would have bought more.

+1 on buying in bulk to get consistent results; my last purchase of 7mm 180 grain VLDs was 30 boxes.

I do like the change to adding the lot numbers to the box, it makes it easier to keep things organized simply by looking at the box.
