bent recoil lug on savage 110 hs precision stocked 338 lapua

Is this common? I found the recoil lug bent on a Savage 110 in 338 lapua with the hs precision stock on it. A friend of mine just got the gun to use the action as a donor for a custom barrel setup. Funny thing is he purchased it from Sportsman Warehouse as a new gun which is a complete other story as the barrel has about a pound of fouling in it, the matte is worn off the bolt, the recoil lug is bent to the point it is actually cracked on both sides, etc, etc. Ok back to the question at hand, Is this common with normal use? Does anyone make a better heavy duty lug for the accustock? I have spoken to Jim at NSS and he doesn't have a heavy lug for the accustock style. thanks for any replys

A 338lm is punishment on gun parts. I cant believe more havent had problems with factory setups. I used to try to build them on factory actions and they destroyed everything like recoil lugs and scope base screws. I now have a defiance with the extra long tenon, pinned scope bases with #12 screws, 5/16 action screws and 1/2" recoil lug. No more issues.

Could you switch to a standard lug and break the Dremel tool along with the Devcon. Go ahead and do a good bedding job on it anyway and improve the system. I understand the gap at the bottom but can that be filled with Devcon also. I hope im stating this correctly as Ive only seen the accustock once. Dusty is correct as you know the 338LM is a punisher

Brownells carries a few oversize recoil lugs for Savages. 338LM definitely needs something thicker than stock!

I have seen several Savages and Remington's with bent recoil lugs. I have also seen cracked and or bent bolt lugs on high pressure rounds.

It came from Savage with a hs precision stock and the accustock style lug, is this normal I have no idea. His plan was to put it in his favorite BA accustock with his custom barrel on this action so he needs to stay with the accustock style lug. Just wondering if this is common and if anyone knew of a better quality lug in the accustock style. thanks

Savage recoil lugs are stamped, they come from the factory bent...some worse than others. I've never seen one broken, and I have a pile of them, but I don't have one from a 338 Lapua or an accu-stock. I'd put a good standard style lug on it and ditch the accu-stock, or modify it to fit if you must.
