benefits of good case prep

i just pulled 30 bullets from loaded ammo. i used a common impact puller with a pad of foam in the nose to prevent tip damage. i trim cases to length, every time, the deburr in and out and then brush the inside of the neck. these bullets look NEW...no marks no damage.

@6bra1k The only thing that you watch for when doing this is check to make sure the BTO didn't move. I had this happen to me and only caught it when I reloaded the projectiles and had CBTO problems. JME
I say shame on anyone for reloading pulled bullets in the rounds they shoot for record. I use them for foulers and sighters and even then only for a small competition.

I've pulled bullets before for various reasons over the years using an impact hammer and never had any issues with damage bullets.

However, I'm not a competitive shooter so I'll defer to those guys when it comes to competition shooting but for precision varmint hunting and practice for the same, never had a precision issue with pulled bullets.

you guys do realize that bullets get engraved by the rifling don't you? Not only that, when the bullet enters the throat the jacket can get some dings and chips on the ogive between the meplat and the bearing surface

edit-

if you mess with the base of that bullet , beware

I agree . Why ? I have used many "pulled" bullets in local Matches , and shot high 190's with a decent X count so I have the same question . I may not use them for FCNC , and I also only have .001 Interference fit .
When I pull a bullet it never gets shot for record in competition. If you are looking for the highest accuracy you should be looking to limit all forms of variation. I don’t run .001” neck tension on anything and I don’t support neck tensions that low for several reasons, but perhaps with neck tensions so low bullets would be fine. At neck tensions in the .002-.004” I always see marks from pulling bullets and therefore I don’t shoot them for record. You can do whatever you want but I’m super anal, when I drop a bullet, it goes into the fouler/sighter bag. I only shoot bullets from the same lot during competition as well.

Until that person kicks your ass in a match with pulled bullets!! I used to laugh at people who would bring stock Savage's to 1000 yard BR matches....till I got me and my $4000 customs ass KICKED by one!!

Me no laugh no more!!!

The saying, "Don't knock it 'til your try it," comes to mind...

I'm always searching for perfection in the loading room, but at the end of the day... the wind kicks my butt more than some blemish on a bullet.

Sure but why take the chance that the bullets you’ve pulled have not changed dimensions in any way, don’t you agree that using brand new pristine bullets is always the safest decision to make when trying to maximize accuracy?? Clearly pulling bullets and reinstalling them can’t possibly make them MORE accurate. At BEST, they will be unchanged. At WORST, they are damaged in a non obvious way that costs the shooter unnecessary loss of points. If you want to shoot pulled bullets for record, go for it; I’ll use mine for foulers and sighters, and be 100% certain of what I’m firing through my tubes for production.

You are shooting in a whole different league than I shoot but I do see your point.

However, just wondering if the trucker or stock person or FedEx people feel the same way and let you know when they dropped a box or stack of boxes of bullets before delivery ?

Only the shadow knows ........... (for you younger guys, you'll have to look that up).

please explain why, facts over opinions
these bullets have no visible deformation, no markings
i'll measure some..maybe .these had a max of .001 neck tension.
like the song says
tell me why
Yeah. We bought some 218LR mil pull down bullets with light visible crimp indents in the jackets. We ran them head to head with new SMKs at 1000 yards and couldn't see any diminished accuracy.

I agree 100%. I NEVER use pulled as record rounds. I just don't think "shame on you" is the proper response.

BUT...I find myself out of Vapor Trails....I just MIGHT use pulled for record. #DESPERATION

You only have to make a LITTLE change (small enough that you can not see it with a naked eye) while tipping bullets to go from being a hero to a zero. Anything that can molest or abuse the jacket/core relationship is suspect. I have tested tipping a lot, it does not take much of an adjustment to go from small to HUGE on target.
