Benchsource Annealer?

In the video it seems loud, but it really isn't. I had cases that fell over but they were 223 with the primer in. Knock the primers out first and everything will run smooth.

Pros.
Easy to set up and use.
Love it.

Cons.
Manual feeding onto rotating disc. As I only do 50 cases per session this is no problem for me. But if you had to do hundreds, then it could be a chore for some.
It is not actually rotating when you insert a case. Stops for whatever period of time you have it set for when the case is in the flame. But, don't spend that $550. I'll do your cleaned cases for 10cents, each, plus shipping, on my Bench Source.
Yes it is! The disc is rotating cases into the flame and I add on new cases as it does so. I do not wait for the cases to be stationary as it doesn't matter to me. Not really an issue!

Pro's I have one, think it is a great unit. Loading cases is a breeze and one can do a hundred cases in just a few minutes. Easy to set up, great for minute adjustments in rotating speed. Con I was having cases fall over frequently, made some bushings on my lathe, they stopped the problem. Got my friend to buy one, made him a set of bushings, he loves his to.

Thinking of buy one also. The "cases falling over" worries me. Anyone else have this problem? Also, when watching the video of the unit it seems really loud. Just how loud is it?
Done thousands with mine. There is really only two reasons the case will fall over. One would be butter fingers but that would be true with any machine and unless you are really clumsy, it's a non-issue. The only other reason is when there are stainless steel media pins stuck in th primer pocket - in that case, it's a good thing for me to find out.

So with the propane bottles in place and the annealing machine setup, how large of a foot print does this take up? I'm thinking about getting one, but I'm not sure my current setup has enough space.

It's abour 16" x 26" but half of that 26" on one side is free since there are no propane bottles there so it frees up space when you put it in storage which is where it sits most of the time since I anneal in batches.

I used mine again today, 300 223 cases, a real pleasure to use. By the way I have been reloading and competing as a High Master for 30 years and I do not have butter fingers SA.

Sorry but it is surprising to hear that you are “having case fall over frequently”. It’s happened to me, but only when I am having one of those “butter finger”days and even then it is a couple of times out of a few hundred cases – thus the comment.

Is your machine properly leveled? Anyone else has this problem? How does your bushings work? Seems like it would be hard to use a bushing since the large cut outs that is used to push the cases is not suppose to touch the case when they get to the rotating top area.

Bushings work beautifully, the case falling over may not have been a problem, however it was easy for me to make the bushings and they work supurbly. They float and the brass turns freely in them, they may not be necessary, but they do work great and make it very easy to set in the brass. I just did another 100 XC cases and it is so easy with this machine it's a no brainer. Thanks for the response.

Not a problem Paul but I am interested in your bushing idea. Still not completely clear how your bushing work but I am thinking that this is something that you insert into the holes of the carrier plate and they reduce those holes to a dimension close to your brass diameter? Sounds smart!

Ya joe, you got it, a little more info, the bushings hang down about 1/2 inch protecting the brass uncase you get it a little to hot, the bushings sorta insulate the brass and protect it. The hole is .500 just slightly larger than the 308,30.06,6XC,6BR size cases. It's a slick addition to a great package. Thanks for the interest.

I really like mine. Despite having to feed it manually it's really fast, I can do an entire set of brass for a given gun (300-500 pieces) in the time it takes to watch a sitcom episode. I just let it dump into a large Gladware container. I've never had a case tip over. I got mine before the Giraud became available but I'd probably make the same decision today.

You can't go wrong with either. Consistency and reliability are a characteristic of both BS and Giraud. For me it came down to having the ability to multi-task, making efficient use of my time in the "man cave".
