Benchrest Shooting Technique-Front rest

Ok guys, since I am a novice- let's talk about basic rear bag shooting technique. This is part 2 of my questions, I figure if we can get the experts here to answer, these would be really good threads for newbs such as myself when they search for technique data. :)

What do we want to do? How well/tightly should the rifle fit in the bag? What kind of adjustment/front rest do you use and why? What brands are worth having? How heavy should the rest be? Any other tips and tricks?

Thanks!

Here are two helpful articles worth reading on the subject:

I would add that you should try to borrow two or three rear bags and see what works best with your stock. Also I've had very good luck with the SEB front bags. They use a microfiber material for the contact surfaces.

Answers, tips, and tricks?

You'll find a wealth of information and answers to your questions and much more, when you peruse and study the two best books on the subject of "B"enchrest shooting offered in the last few years:

1. The Book of Rifle Accuracy by Tony Boyer available here: http://www.brunoshooters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BSS&Product_Code=TBSC

2. Extreme Rifle Accuracy by Mike Ratigan available here: http://www.sinclairintl.com/.aspx/pid=35822/Product/Extreme_Rifle_Accuracy_by_Mike_Ratigan

By going this route, you'll not only get what you're looking for, you'll also have the secrets to other parts of this sport you may have overlooked, and reference works for rereading.

It's okay, this thread is from 2008 and Revenant hasn't posted since then.......

Holy necroposting, Hunter4782!

What sort of rifle are you shooting? Equipment and technique depend on the rifle, including what caliber it is. Also, successful shooters may use different techniques to achieve the same level of performance. What equipment are you currently using, with what technique?
