Benchmark vs Brux-Help me decide.....

Hi,

I am putting together my first semi-custom gun, and I need help choosing a barrel. It will be chambered in 7 SAUM and is going on a savage action. I want a prefit barrel because I am doing the work myself. I can get either a Brux or a Benchmark for about the same cost. I would like to hear the good and the bad from those that have used either brand. I am looking for the most accuracy I can get out of my savage. I would be open to other suggestions for prefit barrels, these are just the two best options I have seen so far. Any advice is appreciated!

I went with the Brux for my Savage. Purchased through SSS as they had one in stock, no wait. Super accurate and very easy to clean. I'm going with a Brux for my Creedmore build.

Come on down and shoot any of my Brux barreled rifles and make your decision on that....
I'll let you shoot some sweet Pac-Nors too while your here......

I believe they both make good barrels, but I guess I am wondering from a pure accuracy standpoint, which company I would have the best chance at getting a more accurate barrel from?

Truthfully, that's almost a "flip a coin" situation.

ditto, both are first tier barrel makers. The Savages I worked on all shot better without the nut.

Also, the benchmark is a button rifled barrel (3 groove or some version of 5R), and the brux is a cut rifled 4 groove. Do you feel this makes a difference?

I recently put a 1.25” Brux on a Savage I put together, very happy. I have 400rds thru it and its avg 198.8 and that’s with a few matches that the wind got the best of me, on a good day it will shoot 199-200 with X counts in the 12-15 range. This was headspaced and installed in a conventional manor using a Northland Shooter Supply Ground recoil lug, mostly done for looks but also there are a few similar rigs around the club that also shoot lights out so I thought why mess with a good recipe. Went 200-15X @ last nights 600yd NRA F-Class match, for a $1400 rifle with the stock Accutrigger that’s about as good as I’m personally capable of. My shooting buddy also just put a Brux on his Bat actioned Precision Rifle, went 200-17X at last nights match, so safe to say Brux is putting out some great bbls as of late.

i thought benchmark was cut rifled--i just talked to the folks at benchmark a couple weeks ago and thought they said that they were cut rifled. could be wrong

I spoke with Chris I think it was, and he mentioned that they had 3 groove and 5r buttons in 7mm, but maybe they can make both??

You owe it to yourself to call brux and talk to one of the guys. If you aint laughing your butt off after chatting for a 1/2 hr, you wernt listening close enough.. I have never met them, but have talked to em both. The movie "Grumpy Old Men" comes to mind....

Great barrels, I have two and will be ordering more....

One other "pre-fit" choice would be the Criterion barrels that Jim Briggs at Northland Shooters Supply sells. Prices are tough to beat for a pre-fit. An offshoot of Kreiger barrels apparently, all of the reports I've seen have been positive.

+1 to what Rod said.
Brux hands down.
As far as I have experienced they are the best couple of guys you can work with. I have 2 barrels from them and they are amazing. The second one we had a miscomunication and they fixed the problem no questions. Sent the barrel back and the new one came in a week with a 20 dollar bill to "cover shipping and pain in the ass fees". Also highly recomend their interupted fluting. I promise you will be the only one of your buddies that has a barrel like it. Always gets oohs and awws.
