Benchmark Barrels' Break-in procedure

Yes, it can; especially in the High-power National Match course. Being 69 and not so limber anymore, I no longer favor that discipline, sticking mainly to those which can be negotiated from a bench.

Our Local Club used to run club matches that conformed to the rifle configurations of F Class, fired 40 rounds in two 30 minute stages on old style V/5 target designs sized to the same MOA as F Class. A possible was 200 40-V.

Distances varied between 150, 200, and 250yd with targets sized to match the distance depending one each club's available distances. The less limber (ole creaky farts like me...) among us fired from the bench with four separate scoring divisions for bench and prone.

I competed with a factory stock Savage 11V/T in .223, and was consistently beat by the 6BR and 6BRX and one sweet shooting 6.5x47. Since my main opponent was myself, the goal was work on improving my own personal best, and I enjoyed some small, gradual success in this.

Greg,
I beg to differ on the carbon fiber rods. Carbon fiber is abrasive and have snapped impaling the shooter. I know that it hasn't happened to you, YET.
Be careful!

I use Ivy and Dewey cleaning rods, but wouldn't hesitate to use the carbon fiber rods. I have caught a fair share of 800 pound + sharks and 300 pound + tuna on custom carbon fiber fishing rods. I've never had one snap. I also shoot carbon fiber arrows without incident.

Here's a link to a video describing how to fix one of those "unbreakable" carbon fiber fishing rods. How can this be?

I don't know what that tube is, but it isn't a fishing rod :o

OK, Butch, I believe you.

But how does one manage to snap a carbon fiber rod?

Greg
According to the customer reviews on sites like Cabelas, Midway, etc. they have a tendency to break at the handle, usually the small cal. rods, but I don't care to take the chance as broken CF can do nasty damage.
Also, it is a standard warning with CF arrow shafts to closely inspect the shaft for nicks, cuts, abrasions as they are known to shatter upon release if such defects are present.
As far as abrasion, should the outer epoxy coat get abraded, it will expose raw carbon fiber -----which is so hard it's very difficult to cut.....just ask custom CF stockmakers like Terry Leonard, Bob Scarborough, and Tony Larson.
