I a currently using a 4 inch wide Record vice from Lowes/Home Depot. I am looking for somethin in the 5 or 6 inch size and better quality. Budget would be couple ben franklins...what would you recommend. Thanks
2 Ben’s don’t get you very far now, Sadly.Yost. But for a rotating 5” it’ll take 4 Ben’s
That's the same thing as the Shop Fox vise you can get from Grizzly for 49 bucks. I've got one, it works pretty good for small things.A lot smaller than you want, but I had saved the link from someone else’s recommendation here.![]()

They also sell a set of soft jaws that fit it, works pretty good, I use it on my knifemaking bench. Thanks for that!
What is a ‘bullet vice’?Vices can get very expensive. Especially the bullet vices. Wilton is a reasonably priced option. Not the bullet vice but the regular vice.
Thanks. Never heard the term. And I have been in the mechanical world for over65 years. That vise looks like it predates me! Lol
Lol yeah, The old Wilton Bullet vise, (I think it's a slang term due to their shape more than an industry term)Thanks. Never heard the term. And I have been in the mechanical world for over65 years. That vise looks like it predates me! Lol

This is an old 4" I salvaged several years ago. It's a '53 or '58 model if I remember right? They're fine vises, but prices are up there.Thanks. Never heard the term. And I have been in the mechanical world for over65 years. That vise looks like it predates me! Lol
If you look at the website pics closely and read the description you'll notice it's forged steel pieces with a welded construction - not cast.https://www.fireballtool.com/products/forged-bench-vise?variant=40138003939372
Wow, you did find a steel cast vise in his price range.
