Bench-top fan or a barrel mirage shield to avoid barrel mirage?

No electronics on the firing line except the tablet of phone used for connecting to shot marker.

Doesn't the rule book say "no electronic communication devices", not "no electronics except..."? The fan is not truly electronic, rather "electric". But the timers we tend to use is electronic but nobody seems to care. Would be best to just ask the match director because ultimately, their call, but I see nothing in the official rule book.

Thanks for the info! Two questions about the brand/model to get. Based on your experience, which size (blade size) is suitable for the limited foot print on the shooting bench, and are any supported by a power pack like, for example, some use for a Garmin chronograph? It would be nice to have a rheostat instead of a fixed fan speed, or a fixed set of fan speeds; don't want to blow stuff/paper off my bench or the bench next to me.

My Dewalt has a rheostat for fan speed. It does have a fair footprint. If you have tools already, just get the one that uses your batteries you already have.

I thought the fan could be used but only for the shooter not as a mirage fix/suedo barrel cooling fan.?!

The fan that I use is the Hercules fan from Harbor Freight. I use a 5 amp hour battery and charge it about twice a summer.

Because I am trapped in yesterday, I still get by with a piece of target paper taped to the sunshade on my scope. No battery, no cost, no concerns. I'm thinking of starting on my autobiography, "Life as a Luddite". WH

There is another avenue but it depends on the scope ID , I have seen folks use a long clear tube slipped onto the scope bell that acts as a mirage shield. IE: maybe a cleaning rod shipping tube? looks funky but effective. Cheap too if you have one that would fit. Just spit balling ideas.

Lots of fans being used during competition at Manatee. Never really thought they were any shooting improvement. One thing of note is some of them tend to make a noise that can be quite distracting to some. Many of us with old ears that are trashed really don't care.

Never been an issue with a fan being something "electronic" that I am aware of.
