Bench-top fan or a barrel mirage shield to avoid barrel mirage?

Is a battery operated fan on the shooting bench pointed toward the barrel or a barrel mirage shield better to avoid barrel mirage, or both? When there's a breeze it blows away barrel mirage and I don't need the shield, so I would expect the fan to do the same. I've been thinking about a fan since I expect it would also keep the barrel from getting too hot; when a breeze is present I have noticed, using my IR temp gun, that the barrel cools much faster than when there's no breeze/wind. What's your experience? All thoughts are welcome!

No electronics on the firing line except the tablet of phone used for connecting to shot marker.
Does that also include the electronic Anti-Cant devices that I have seen advertised ?
