Bench mount priming tools

Technically not a bench priming tool, it mounts to a single stage press.

The RCBS APS press mounted priming tool.

Excellent primer seating depth control.

Out of production. Used ones like hen's teeth.

Second technically not a bench mounted priming tool - the very underrated ram prime. Can be set up for precise primer seating depth.

Yes, you have to handle each primer. If you use a primer tube you have to pick each primer up anyway. Never jams, never glitches. Anyone looking for primer depth control doesn't prime in a hurry either.

My Hornady press is an all-in-one it decaps with a universal DE capping die installs primers firmly with a primer installation tool. Also does all the rest of the required hand loading.

It seems like there are about 50 different perspectives being posted here. Makes it confusing to see the answer.

My perspective is I wanted:
To seat primers the way the primer makers thought they should be seated.
To be sure the anvil to touching the primer pocket on every round.
To be as consistent as possible from bolt face to primer
To provide a system foundation to tune primer to bolt face distance.

Im sure that is too much!

I spoke to several primer manufacturers. Most would not acknowledge anything more than the anvil needs to touch plus a bit more to be reliable. None thought there was value in controlling anything more than anvil touch. One thought it might be a worthy text to evaluate seating more or less deep, but had no info themselves. It was interesting to see that their main focus was seating to be reliable.

So, I focused on depth and setting a bit of measured squish…..about 0.002”. I decided I needed long handle leverage and a depth stop.

The K&M tool was fine but hurt my hand. It lacked leverage.

The RCBS tool had no depth control. Hollands keep telling me people were breaking the handle in their class….makes no sense.

The Hollands tool looks nice, but it seems to weaken the handle that people break!! No idea why. It is probably a great tool.

I decided to get the CPS. Good tool for me, but it is specifically being ignored in this thread.

Since I’m the OP………

The only reason I’m avoiding the CPS is cost. For the amount and type of shooting I do (or used to do) I can’t, in any way, justify the cost. It looks like a great high quality tool and wouldn’t mind having one, but …..

In all fairness, I totally agree with the sentiment. I only bought one because I saw I could try it and resell within an hour for what I paid. They seem to go like hotcakes.

After buying, now I need to prove it to myself….numerically! Qualitatively, it is an easy choice!
