Beginner 22 match rifle for benchrest

I shoot ARA Unlimited and Factory indoors. The rules for Factory allow the Tikka T1x, the CZ457 MTR and the Bergara B14r (steel). Read the rules to be sure you know what is expected before you make a purchase, if you are planning to shoot ARA. You can get a two piece rest for a modest cost (bipod front, bag rear) to get started.

Hope this helps...

I will see what Sanctions are shooting in my area and that will help with the decision on class. I see the recommendations for rifles and that is the info I needed to help me decide what to look for in a rifle. I have a Remington 504 that shoots good but I didn't know if it would be competitive or allowed. I should feed it some quality ammo and find out.

Actually it is quite common for people to post on the internet without knowing essential information or even much at all about the topic.
I understand that but a little research before you ask is a good thing for getting the right suggestions. Now he's asking about Kimbers or Sakos so he still has no idea what he wants to shoot. And he will not come forth with that information. He is not asking about factory ARA or he would have gone to the rules for an answer to his question. No one can answer his questions.

How can anyone advise him on rifles when no one knows what he wants to shoot?
That's what I asked him and we're still flying blind. So I've withheld my thoughts.

I started with some benchrest a couple years ago and my first step was figuring out what benchrest organizations had matches within driving range of me. It would have been a miserable mistake to spend hard earned money for a rifle that is technically not compliant and get kicked into an unlimited class. So in my case I was able to confirm ARA was my best opportunity.

Yup, you're right John, he must be just asking as a general question. several have posted that for ARA none of the rifles he is now asking will be allowed.

Sounds like you want to be competitive. I would go to a match and see what is being used and what is being competitive. Not many factory guns will compete with well tuned custom guns.

“Good Ammo” is ammo that shoots well in your particular gun and, is a must. Just because the ammo is expensive does not mean it will shoot well in your gun.

Allowed modifications can be helpful.
