Bedding new recoil lug

I’m in the process of rebarreling a REM 700. After facing the action and adding a larger (.250) recoil lug, I plan on just re bedding the area around the recoil lug. The action bedding is perfect and I don’t want to change that. My only concern really is that I could end up with some compound under the front of receiver. I’ll open up the area all around the recoil lug, tape off lug, and fill with compound but my question is whats the best way to keep the bedding compound from oozing under the front of the action?

By no means a expert at this , but I have used modeling clay to build a "DAM" in front of the area where I wanted to hold the compound , and remove it when finished with a X-acto knife . Followed up with a Dremel to clean up the edges .

The next time you need to do a 'dam', instead of using modeling clay try this plastic foam packing material. It's compressible, is easy to trim and epoxy won't stick to it.....this 700 tang area is one I did just a couple days ago. If needed, I'll hold it in place with a dab of hot glue from a crafting hot glue gun.

I got the tip from a 'smith that does really nice bedding so I'm passing it along.
