Bedding a stock

Is glass bedding a stock still a recognized way to improve accuracy ? Your thoughts appreciated.

Along with pillar mounting the action, you bet. Of course we are talking small degrees, but yes, IHMO.

Absolutely. However, when you ask about the rationale behind bedding, the most verifiable reason to bed is to prevent point of impact shift from season to season, and when the action is removed from the stock.

And don't forget to make sure the barrel is free-floated as well. That would complete the package.

With a bedding material. I prefer marine tex. Devcon is a nice material too.

Acraglas is junk and usually ends up with air bubbles. Also very difficult to work with.

Devcon 10110 steel puddy or marine tex are much higher quality compounds.

I use the Devcon Ledd Slinger posted. I have even used JB Weld, but it's not as strong and as good as the Devcon 10110 - I don't recommend it.

I have never used JB Weld for bedding an action, but I use it all the time for bedding my scope rings. Easy to mix small amounts with the little tubes. Works extremely well to bed in elevation compensation shims and to get 100% contact between the rings and scope body.
