Bedding a Savage MKII, help please.

I just recently purchased a Savage mkii in a thumbhole stock, and was wondering how I may improve the accuracy. I am going to bed the action in the stock but stopped before asking questions. Should I freefloat the tang of the reciever as I would on a Savage centerfire, or bed the full length?

How accurate is yours? I have been shooting RF BR for 15years and liking the looks and the article on the Savage web site about the accuracy of the rifle I too bought one.
After shooting and cleaning I fired over 500rds test lots of Eley and Lapua. I finally got 5 groups under a half inch @ 50yds, I also had about 40 from .550 to over 1" @50 yds. I called Savage after owning the gun 4 days, they told me that the factory spec is 1" @ 100yds,they have a tunnel). I sent the rifle back and asked if the one in the magazine article was a one off for magazine writers to test. I hope to have a more accurate rifle to bed and tweak. I think if it won't consistently shoot sub half in @ 50 yids upon it's return it will be sold. The rifle would probably have been acceptable to most people as it was.

I just recently purchased it from a friend of mine. It did show potential from as well I can remember, but that was about 6 months ago. The reason I asked my question with the bedding is that there were some contact spots under the tang, and I know that is not good on centerfire, not sure about rimfire. It was printing groups with three or four touching, but always one or two fliers. I'll play with it when I get the stock and I'll let you know.

Savage sent me a new rifle, it came with a 100yd 3 shot group of .8". I took it to the range and it will shoot consitant under 1/2" @ 50yds I am happy. It will be bedded next week, when I get it back I will let you know how it was done.
