Bedding a Ruger

After completing my first bedding job on my Savage 6BR I’m motivated to try another one.

I would like to bed my Ruger 77 220 Swift. I have searched and cannot find any good instruction on how to best bed a Ruger action with the angled front screw.

Because of the angled front screw should I pillar bed first and then bed the rest of the action?

If anyone has any helpful hints for a Ruger I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Jason

I've done a fair number of them. You need not pillar bed but I always have. Brownells sells pillars specifically for the 77 rifles.
Otherwise there is no real trick - rough up the area behind the recoil lug and rear tang
,or the entire action if you want), bed the back of the recoil lug and up the sides a bit and around the tang area. I use release agent on the regular stock screws and after an hour or so of curing back them out a few turns and then re-snug to keep them from being glued in. When you release the action from the stock open up the screw holes with a drill bit,I turn it by hand) and you are done.
It is a flat bottomed action so it is fairly easy to get a good bedding job on them. I don't over do the bedding compound as Ruger's machine cut bedding is pretty good.

+1 for for watercam.
You can also use Vasoline on the stock screws. The bedding agent will not stick to it.

also i'd add clearance so not to create a second recoiling lug with the rear edge of the tang area I'd add two layers of tape along the rear edge of the tang so not to create a binding condition
just my thoughts

try this.....

Kaiser Norton

I've added a 416 s/s recoil lug to the action on a couple of Rugers.
Customers were more than satisfied.

Not my choice in actions/triggers.
