Glass Bedding a Ruger 10-22 Magnum

Hello,
I’m planning on glass bedding a Ruger 10-22 magnum (steel receiver) in a laminated stock. The gun has a lightweight tensioned barrel so I think the best choice is to free float the barrel and bed the receiver area. I’d like to bed the sides of the action but am concerned about getting the straight sided action out of the stock. Has anyone had experience bedding one of these guns and what do you recommend?
Thanks,

Robin

Just did a .22 non mag. for a budy of mine. Bedded about .250 up on the sides and it came out just fine. It was tight but it came out use wax. Had a problem getting the action to not tip toward the barrel without a contact point under the barrel. I did mine just standard bedding and no problem. I dont make any claims to be good at this but they shhot well.

Thanks Bert,

I read some time ago that the standard 22s with alloy receivers should be bedded on the barrel with the action floated. However - I'm not an expert and you can't argue with success if the gun shoots well!

A lot of the local rimfire gurus were bedding the barrel and floating the action. I've no experience with the 10/22 and I'm only repeating what I've been told by some real serious rimfire guys. YMMV.

You can bed 100% of the surface area the receiver offers... it will be a tight fit getting it in the stock, but if you use a good release agent it won't be a problem. I use Kiwi Neutral as a release agent with Devcon 10110 as the bedding epoxy. So far the biggest hitch to bedding all of the receiver is keeping it clean around the pin/buffer holes, but maybe that's just tricky for me.

I have been bedding the receiver and 1 1/2" inches of the barrel just past the V-block, leaving the rest of the barrel free floated. I tape off the V-block so it doesn't contact any bedding material, but you could skip that if you plan on never removing the barrel.

My two cents... willing to try new things bedding 10/22s but this has worked for me so far.

That is the preferred way to do it.
