Bedding a B&C Medalist Stock

I have a Remmington 700 sps -v that I plan to fit to a B&C Medalist Stock. B&C indicates that this is a "drop in" application but I was wondering if glass bedding would improve my results. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

tyqchur: I have 2 Savages (mdl 10 & mdl 12), and one of my Rem 700SA's with B&C Medalist/Tactical stocks. When they were at the 'smiths, being fitted with new barrels, they were all given a very light "skim bedding", just enough to make up for the slight differences found with normal production receivers. More of a "feel good" attempt than anything else. Was it worth it? Don't know. There was such a big improvement over the factory stocks, ( they must have cost Savage & Rem about $2.95 each), I was very happy "as-is". I did have to remove a very small amount of material from the stock bolt cutout. The bolt was making contact & being kept from fully closing, and the excess material was easily removed with a Dremel tool. Now am able to slide a piece of thick paper underneath the closed bolt, like checking a barrel for free-float. They all were drop-in in the sense of free floating barrel and good receiver fit. A very nice stock, at a reasonable price, without a 6 month wait.

Frank; Thanks for the reply. This is my first project and I was a bit unsure on how to proceede; the thin skim coat sound reasonable. Thanks again for your help.

I glass beded a Rem 700 into a B&C Medalist stock last year. I can't say if it did or didn't make it shoot better as mine was also a blue-print on the cation and complete rechamber of the factory heavy barrel. BUT... one thing sure did stand out :o when I was done. That is... just how much contact there actually was between the action and the aluminul bedding block. I died the galss green to match the stock color and when the action popped out of the bedding I could see the aluminum contact perfectly and everywhere there was green that meant that there wasn't proper contact. So my vote ( for what ever that's worth ::)) is to definately have it done.
