Is it necessary to bed a Model 54 Anschutz?

Depends on exactly what you are trying to obtain.

Most factory Anschutz rifles shoot very well as they come from the factory.

Most Anschutz rifles shoot even better after a correctly done action bedding.

For casual shooting the requirements are different than what it takes for high level competitions. For some good is good enough. For others the absolute best that can be obtained is the goal........

Again...what are you trying to accomplish?

And just to complicate it a tad more, the newer aluminum stocks use 'rubber' (polyurethane) bedding to reduce vibrations. I used neoprene rubber to bed my air rifle and it did improve that rifles accuracy significantly.

No. It's not necessary to bed any rifle. But bedding might improve its accuracy.

Use wood pillows made for oak. They are softer.

Novel idea but did you really change anything? the action screws are still going through wood and when torqued are still subject to the same expansion and contraction changes.
