Becoming more difficult

I am guardingly optimistic that the proper candidates will win. If I am correct, reloading components will again become available. That will be your opportunity, to take advantage of it. Chances are that lean times will come again. Hopefully not now but in the distant future.
For me, a decent inventory did not appear over night, but a small amount at a time. Along with increasing inventory, you must pay attention to what your are using and make adjustments. Tattoo the 3P's under your eye lids and you will survive a long time.

The only place I got caught with my pants down so to speak is handgun bullets. My wife took up a bi-monthly defensive shooting class and has been going through about 200 rounds a month if not more. 9mm projectiles have been not easy to find to say the least.

20 years ago I was into bullet casting but I got out of it for several reasons, primarily my sources for free lead went away and buying lead cost as much as buying the bullets. But lately I've been thinking of getting back into it just as another way to beat the shortage.

Back in The Great 22LR Famine in what, mid 2000's? I was particularly frustrated because there were all these people talking about what day and time the truck arrived at walmart or wherever, getting there at 7 am and waiting for hours for the truck to unload...and other such tactics, buying out the entire stock before it hit the shelves. Posting pictures on the internet of 10,000 rounds of 22LR saying "and I buy more every week. I don't even own a gun but this stuff will be currency when the economy collapses." I guess they envisioned themselves buying milk and bread and steaks with the loose 22 rounds in their pocket as if they were coins, while the rest of us look on hungrily and say gosh those guys were so smart...

It bothered me because in my view these greedy so-and-so's were preventing me from enjoying my pass-time, my sport which I have practiced pretty much all my life. I had no time (still don't) to devote hours and hours to scoop up 20 bucks worth of ammo every week.

Sorry that was a bit of a rant. Sore subject.

Just to start with, I do have enough supplies to last me for a while.
How many of you are becoming slightly put off by the lack of supplies
we used to be able to buy at anytime or the prices going up after a
mass buyout.
I know all the reasons or why there is a shortage from time to time.
Sometimes just not as fun anymore.
These are definitely lean times I went to my local gun store today and they were only three boxes of my bullets although I did find some reloader 33 and they even had 2 pounds of retumbo on the shelf but I suspect they had more and back they just didn’t want anyone to get too greedy

It can be demoralizing. I understand it, I’m not run out of supplies and have kept plugging along. I am far better prepared than most, especially in loaded ammo like 5.56 and 7.62

However I’m relatively young and have to balance expanding my collection with increasing my reloading supplies. If I want to try a new shooting discipline I have to put money towards a firearm for it and then supplies for that firearm, instead of supplies for the others.... So, I don’t have as much backup as most here probably do. It is frustrating when your favorite hobby has stocking and pricing bound to political waves and disaster scares. When I was into fast cars and wakeboarding I never worried about that.
Many, many will disagree with me but I feel having a bunch of guns isn’t as important as have a few really good ones. Remember for each gun you need lots of add-ons ie. dies, seater, bushings, expander, shell holders, pilots, ammo boxes, bipods, flat top bag, angled bag, cleaning rod, rod tips, different size patches etc. etc. It can become overwhelming. I say buy lots of components, practice a lot, really really get to know your gun and all of its accessories. Love your girl and she’ll love you back. Love two and your doomed! Mike A.

Mom and Dad bought me the reloader that was on my Christmas wish list in 1964. One of the first things my old uncle (who was a pioneer reloader) told me was "stay stocked up on reloading supplies". He explained to me how difficult it was for him to obtain powder and primers during WW11 and the Korean war. I never forgot it. I'm not sure what things were like during the 60s because I had an obligation to uncle sam and I was gone. This roller coaster isn't going to stop. Get stocked up while the stocking is good and stay stocked up.

I buy powder in 8lb bottles. Have plenty of primers . Good brass..And just picked up some a-tips to try out.Good for a decade or so..

Generally, I can find what I need. However, I have to spend inordinate amounts of time on the computer searching high and low. It gets aggravating! If it gets much worse and stays in that condition, I will sell my rifles (most of them) and pack my bags up and head to Tennessee to take back up FISHING!! I love BOTH shooting and fishing. However, if one is going to become and stay a sore spot, I will go fully after the other..

Ben, sure hope you stay with us shooters! We would surely miss you and your bubbly persona!

Mr. and Mrs. William Jefferson Clinton taught me a most valuable lesson back in the 1990s never ever ever get caught with your pants down....... When it comes to enough reloading supplies that is:D I guess I need to add that Mrs. Clinton taught me that just for years ago....again.
I still buy 30rd AR mags and 20rd m14 mags because of this. Those same 22lr hoarders were selling them for $100each when i was fresh in the working world and wanted some bad. I was an AR coyote hunter before an AR was mainstream and the m1a was still made in devine. Of course i dont have any of them anymore but i still buy the mags. Just a fetish i guess. Ive never forgotten those hoarders and the heartache they inflicted on me.
