BDL spring and follower work in ADL?

I have a 20 practical with ADL stock

I have a bdl bottom metal and spring//follower from 223

I ordered a ADL magazine 223 box my question is the spring and follower te same? I'm using the bdl spring and follower but experiencing some feeding issues sometimes it won't load a bullet it will slightly slide over

Will the ADL spring cure this? Is the follower the same?

I've interchanged them a few times. I think the spring and follower are the same, but the ADL box is taller than the
bdl. The ADL box should fix it.

I have the ADL box installed and am having the issue

Using the ADL magazine box and the spring and follower that came from the bld

Any idea what size the screw is that holds the ADL box to the action? I'm missing that and think it may be my issue

The spring is the same but the follower is different. It has some tabs on the sides. Ive never went your way but ive converted a bunch to bdl and i know i used to grind the sides to fit. Then i just started buying 100% bdl parts.

The ADL mag box "Tab" screw is a #4-40tpi.
Allen head cap screws work/install the easiest.

An ADL mag spring has a curled up "Toe" in the bottom leg to prevent binding & a "Dimple" in the top leg to keep the spring centered in the stamped follower.

ADL & BDL followers have the "Tabs" on the underside to prevent crushing the spring bends as they are only 1/2 hard spring steel.

Either ADL/BDL box/spring/follower will function depending on stock depth/inlet

Remington lists the springs and followers as "700 common parts", and they will fit either ADL or BDL magazines, however they are caliber class specific. .223, .222, .17 etc. has a different part number than 7-08, .243, .308, etc.

The ADL tab screw should be a 3-48 thread. If it is missing the box could be floating around and causing your problem. The box should be up tight to the feed lips in the receiver.

I checked the three actions I have on by bench for the post. They are all 3-48, at least a 3-48 screw would enter and a 4 or 5 coarse or fine would not. The best way to tell is measure a screw, but I dont have one at the moment. Lemme double check! I did alter a 722 a few years ago and I seem to remember 4-40 also.

Well, as near as I can tell, we are both wrong!
The three receivers I have are identical in hole size and they measure out at 3/32-40, which is a special thread and scary close to 4-40. Approximately .006" under 4-40. Doesn't seem like much, but a few thousandths make a big difference when we are talking small screws like these.

Sure. You can get one at the hardware store and a tap to chase the threads for less than Midway price. Like Dan said, use a socket head cap screw. It you get one too long, just file it down.

and most gunsmiths regularly convert ADL configuration to BDL or detachable, so they have screws in their tool box. The OEM screw has a wide head and works perfectly, no need to substitute.
