Bbl vices & action wrench's

Thinking about useing a 700 action and build a switch Bbl. 220 Yd. "plinker" as that's the limit on my range. I'm looking for suggestions on bbl vices, action wrench's [I'm familuar with the T handle ones , not the others ] and some places to shop

Lots of options on wrenchs and barrel vises.

Just remember to pin your recoil lug and put anti-sieze on the barrel threads.

There are lots -of-em out there,,,,I like the "rear entry" action wrench that has an integral nut (usually 3/4") so that u can use your socket set ,braker bar and remove bbls....the bbl vice can be a simple "V" block style or one of the cute lil' bushing style from Bruno that has bushings that fit HV-LV bbl profiles..and can be clamped to the table/truck bumper for quik bbl changes.....these types of tools can be carried in your tool box conviently ....Roger

+1 on Lawrence's setup. I also use the Davidson wrenches/vice from Sinclair. It's top notch.

Another vote for Lawrence and David's choices. Excellent tools, I got them from Sinclair. I use heavy brown shopping bag paper cut wide enough to cover the Davidson clamp and wrap it around the barrel 6 or 7 times. Have never marked any barrel. Be sure to get a good torque wrench. I tried to use the typical $25 one sold in the auto parts store. it was crap. Picked up a Snap-on 200 ft. lb. professional model from a retired auto mechanic. I torque my barrels to 65 ft. lbs., but that's a matter of personnal choice, and as said be sure to use anti-seize, just a little, goes a long way.

By the way, this probably goes without saying, but don't forget matching go/no go headspace gauges.

If you are removing a factory barrel, the action wrenches that go inside the action may not be the way to go. For those cases where the barrel is stubborn an action wrench that clamps on the outside of the front receiver ring, and has a provision for the front action screw to be engaged may be needed. When the torque input is large, I have been advised that rear entry wrenches, that engage the entire length of the lug raceways can wind up and twist an action.

WOW, THANKS ALL for the help, I looked at the Sinclair/ davidson set up, a little confussing as it looks like they come as a set ?? low price for both ?? AND the one for the Rem. 700 says LH ??

If you look at the picture in the previous post, at the action wrench, you will see that one corner of the part that is inserted into the action, is relieved to keep pressure off of the groove in the action body that mates with a matching contour in one of the bolt lugs to create an anti- binding feature. If the relief in the wrench was not there, there is a potential for heavy pressure on the wrench to collapse the groove. This feature is on opposite sides in right and left handed actions. If you are going to use this sort of action wrench, it should match the handedness of the action that you plan on using it on.
