Battle rifle

I have thought this over and I like the M1A but I like the AR platform better, Yes I know the AK47 and SKS are proven shooters and those who have them love them and that's good with me. Im looking more towards top of the line US made rifles. I think the M1A is over my head in maintenance and wallet. I don't mind spending 3000.00 but only once and be done with it.
LMT
LWRC
Larue
Scar 17
Other, what do you think

The US military requires 3 minutes of angle that 3 inches at 100 yds
The M14 - M1 A with someone who knows how to shoot it will get it down way below that, Expect 1 minute of angle with decent ammo. Not surplus ammo that 50
Yrs old . Good ammo is what keeps them in the 10 ring.
I shot one knock down with the 30cals. If you can't afford the M14 M1 a the Garand will do pretty well, only with 8 shots instead of 20.
The others are ok but the best of the lot still is the M14 M1a or garand

nice answer from the PAST.....
sorry but an ar10 will out run an m1a all day and all night and is serviceable by the shooter.

SHTF scenario firearm.....hmm.......depends on where you live.....whatever one has on hand. For folks in Metro areas...an AR, AK, Ruger mini, M1, would serve one well. My archery skills are decent and quality blades don't require ammo that won't be plentiful. I blessed to live in sticks and we love hiding/stalking in/from the terrain. For us country boys, we're partial to our tried and true firearms that we use almost daily like a quality bolt or shotgun. Hope everyone really considers their current needs.

Metro, suburban, country....may want to consider the differences. I prefer shooting from afar so the enemy will never see or hear anything because they'll be down before the sound wave reaches them. Keeping ammo in pvc storage thats buried in various locations on ones property is a game changer. Good luck mr bad guys! Odds are in my favor rain, sleet, snow, day or night! I hope and pray this never happens, but the world is a sick place. Chaos is coming.

BTW...don't underestimate blades, archery, spears. My favorite battle weapon is the Tomahawk!

How many people that are yakking about SHTF have a viable plan? A rifle is far from the whole picture. Hunkering down in a suburban home with a rifle..think that through. Even hunkering down in a normal home in the country. Keep thinking...

Bug out bag. Fresh water. Food. Shelter. Heat. Medical supplies. A rural place to go. Transportation to get there. Trade items. Etc.

Keep thinking and researching.

It ain't cheap. Nor is it convenient. You have to decide on what you want to prepare for and really do it.

Buying a battle rifle, ammo, staying proficient...that is entertainment. I'm not opposed to entertainment. Far from it. I'm just pointing out the difference.

Unless you run into a situation as depicted in "The Patriot" (movie starring Mel Gibson), any chump with a Lorcin .380 will likely cap you before you get close enough to go Last of the Mohicans on him. :)

As to arrows, how many would you have? How many would get lost/damaged/used?

As I suggested before, those pondering a SHTF scenario really might want to read the book(s) by James Wesley, Rawles.

OK well said On that AR platform Just don't give that aluminum receiver a very hard knock.
They are quite delicate drop one on hard surface.
3minutes of angle is all that's required. That beats out most of the other competition from other countries.
Many are 6 minutes of angle. ak sk etc fal etc they shoot patterns not groups . The spray and pray is gone has been for a long time too.
I just hope that it never comes to and end where this would be necessary .
God help us if it does.

technical answer to gerry....

BS

forged recievers or 7075......very tuff very strong...

just plain bs gerry

Delicate? Have a look at some of the torture tests done to them. There's a video of Larry vickers shooting the damn thing multiple times and putting it in a car with C4 explosives! They are not delicate.

The military has been using them for 50 years and there are millions more in the civi mkt. if they were as delicate as you describe they would not be very successful

I saw an AR get knocked over from a table drop 3 fit and the receiver split in half, I've see HK and AKs get bent from very bad handling handling the same 14 in the same way the only thing hurt was the stocks they still functioned perfectly'
Hang around TRack vehicles for a while and you will see. JUNK cheap JUNK .
