Bat Igniter reviews

Wanted to post some info on the long action if anyone is still considering. I have to say I am impressed with this action, I haven’t thoroughly inspected it but it’s typical BAT machine quality.

The bolt is quite smooth and I have included some measurements of the bolt and raceways, bolt being .718 and the raceways .7215

The bottom cut out is very generous at 4.075

The cocking piece doesn’t have a roller but you would be hard pressed to tell.

In my opinion if you were looking at spending $1000 I would definitely wait and save the additional $200 for this, I think you would be glad you did.

Thanks for that info. Looks great! Unfortunately during the wait I bought a BAT HR. No regrets on the HR whatsoever but looks like the LA igniter is a heck of a deal for the money.

Its a VR with no options. Lots of VRs out there, I have had one for a long time. The best rem clone short action there is imo.
Have you looked into the igniter LA lapua. Is it safe to build off of? Looks like it has 1.062 x 18 threads? Maybe I’m wrong and just seeing the specs that mimic the vr and the LA’s will mimic the hr 1.125? I’ve got the vesper coming then will be sent off to you for the 300nmi but saw that they have an igniter in lapua and thought maybe it would be a budget friendly heavier 338 bipod/truck gun. But I know your picky for good reason on actions and lapua bf’s. Maybe it’s best to stick with the vesper, hr, or Borden?

What are the threads on the tenon on that LA?

I just got done emailing Steve at bat. He sent me this and said the LA igniter is like the hr. So 1-1/8x16. Which is great news for me wanting to do a lapua.

Seems there are some discrepancies out there. I purchased the one I have from Unknown Munitions, the information and print I posted above came from there website. The print linked even says Ignitior but I wounder now of that is just for a short action? I have not barreled the one I have so I have yet to measure the tennon, I will measure it tonight.

Yeah, That’s where I am looking to pick up a LA lapua from. I have a vesper lapua pre ordered from them as well. I think the original short actions were streamlined vr’s and the long actions are streamlined hr’s. I have a feeling that diagram on their website is for the SA. I had a little doubt that bat would build and support the LA especially in lapua in the smaller 1.062 etc is why I went and asked them personally. Curious to what you find on yours.

On the topic of the .588 Lapua case head, the reason for the 1-1/8 thread tenon is not really about the hoop strength of the barrel its about fitting larger lugs on the bolt. A 1-1/16 tennon action limits the od of the lugs to about an inch. Then even worse is when they go to a .750 bolt which reduces the lugs width even more. Simply having larger threads does not mean they have taken advantage of them by increasing the lug size. The combo of a .720 bolt diameter and the larger lug od of the HR makes it the strongest rem clone out there. I have run them up to pressures that ruin brass and the bolt opens like nothing.

Sorry to kick an old threat but looking to build my first custom rifle. I have some old customs i bought from my dad but never had my own. Looking to go with the Igniter LA for a 300prc or maybe even 300nmi. It seems like a great price for a quality action. I want to put a prefit on it and not really sure what options are out there. Trying to put this together myself. I know i will need a barrel vise, action wrench etc. Will hawkins bottom metal or m5 work with this action?

Looking for any input on this action. I have done a lot of research on actions lately. There are so many but i have finally landed on Bat. They are local and their tolerances seem to be great. I looked at kelby, terminus, curtis, stiller, defiance, etc etc.

Also, any good recommendations for accurate prefits for a bat?

FWIW, I think it’s a great action with nice features for the value with smooth bolt function. I believe I have a short action mag bolt in the box if you need some measurements on anything.

Below is a picture of Hawkins M5 DBM on the igniter I pictured in the earlier posts. With the caliber he selected in this long action we had to install the spacer kit which made it feed way better.

I hardly ever do pre-fits so I can’t help much on that. Might reach out to Unknown Munitions and see if they could spin one up and install it right on an Igniter they have in stock.

What caliber is chambered for this receiver?

You mentioned it’s a long action with a spacer kit. Could you elaborate on the details of this ?

The chamber was 25-06. I installed the Hawkins spacer kit to reduce the amount of length in the magazine and changed the follower so the ramp would “pop” the cartridge up quicker. This gave better feeding with that particular cartridge.

spacer kit,
