BAT 3L bolt question

I am looking at buying a rifle. It is presently configured as a 6PPC. I'm thinking to change it to 6BR. Can the bolt be modified to BR/.437 bolt face? Or better yet PPP/BR bolt face?

The 3L can be ordered from BAT with a PPC/BR combination bolt face.

You would have a better chance of getting the real truth by calling BAT.

have you checked a BR case in the bolt? most of the bat actions from quite a few years have the combo bolt face. if not send it to bat to be modified.

Next time I see it I will try to fit a BR case or measure the bolt face diameter.

The more I think about it I may just shoot it as a 6PPC. At least until it needs a new barrel.

I have done many PPC to .473 mods on multiple custom bolts. Opening the face diameter is the easy part. There will be modifications to the extractor depending on what type extractor (Sako, sliding plate, mini/STD M16) as the intended depth was for a smaller rim diameter. Darrel Thom and I have agreed that as long as you understand there's more to it than just opening the bolt it is possible. Extraction may suffer some from this change.

I am going to use the rifle for Benchrest so a 6PPC would certainly be ok.

I had planned to have a 6BR that was shortened 0.100" to have the same case capacity as a PPC but a greater diameter to length ratio.

Since it is already an excellent cartridge for Benchrest I will probably just run it the way it is.

I am still interested to know if it can be modded to BR/PPC combo in case I want to change down the road.

Yea the ppc is certainly acceptable for benchrest. Easy to load for with all the data thats out there.

It can be done. The current BAT machine combination PPC/BR boltface is just an opened up PPC setup. It always seems that the PPC ejection suffers with this combo face in my experience.
