Bat 3 Lug Action for 308 win

Looking Bat 3 Lug Action for make a benchrest rifle in 308 win. Hanging with 1.25 straight 32" barrel + Mcmillan Tooley MBR.

Which one of these list will you suggest ?

3LL Octagon Pic

MB or M is my suggestion. 3l has that horrendous bolt lift. Disturbs the bags too much for me plus I think you need the M for an overkill barrel like that.

Next time you talk to Gene Bukys, be sure to ask him how he's managed all the HOF points, Super Shoot, and World Championship wins...all the while, upsetting his bags with the horrendous bolt lift.

To the OP, I'd skip the 32" barrel, screw a 28" onto a standard 3L.

I dont have to ask gene- i shoot a 3l in a ppc but it dont have a 30" barrel on it and a combination of my dies and bags dont cause a problem just like gene.

What is the main advantage of 3 lug over 2 lug?

My current benchrest rifle was built with Stiller Viper SS. Just interest with 3 lug.

3 lug has slightly less bolt lift. Usually they open harder. I would use an M for that big barrel. A lot stiffer and the opertunity to go to up to 300 Weatherby length cases. It would also let you throat out the 308 and use a long bullet and not use up your powder capacity. Matt

I know you asked about which 3 lug action would work best, and of course a couple suggest a 2 lug would be better. Fairly silly, the choice between the 2 is really just a matter of preference. A 3LL is almost the same as a model M in length and ports, so much stiffer, no. Actually, my first concern is your choice of chambering. Any reason you wish to use a 308? From a ballistics standpoint, there are far better choices for long range BR.
