Base for Shadetree top?

I had originally posted suggestions for a front rest. From the few responses I believe buying the Shadetree joystick top and a base are the way to go on a budget. I see many use the Bald Eagle. However you can only use the slingshot due to joystick hitting the rear leg screw?? Is that the case? Is a Sinclair Heavy Varmint a better choice? Is a speed screw necessary with a joystick top? All help is appreciated. Thanks

That is not true. Butch used to supply a low profile leg to replace the factory rear leveling screw. Perhaps someone tried using the Shadetree top with a speedscrew installed in the rear leg. That won't work, besides it being a superfluous idea. Ditto on the BE tri-pod version. I used a BE tri-pod/ Shadetree combination for 3 seasons of comp. and never experienced any interference.

I have the newer heavy varmint, with the AP top. I was hoping it will work on it. How much does the Shadetree top run?

I'm just trying to figure which is a better rest? BE charges shipping and Sinclair is free so not much of a price difference

I like my varmints weight. Almost as much as the Farley’s weight.
Thanks for the price.
Nothing like having 2 rests.. one for comp, other for company, at half price of the other..

The BE non-windage rests are $165 + shipping and your choice of alum. or cast iron and triangle or slingshot. The Sinclair Heavy Bench non windage rest is $299 + ~$8 order fee (IIRC) shipped. I would not get the Sinclair lightweight rest. The BE's are a much better rest than the Sinclair lightweight, and the Sinclair Heavy is a better rest than the BE's. However, IMO it is not $100 better.

BE IS $180 SHIPPED. Sinclair is $229 shipped. Worth $50 more?? Thanks
OK. I stand corrected. You are solely interested in a base only and a Shadetree top. The BE rests have a rack and pinion for quick elevation change- a feature I like. The Sinclair heavy does not have that feature. I have 3 BE's, never used a Sinclair rest so I can't give an opinion on their ergonomics.

Well I finally got around to unpackaging my new shadetree top and bald eagle rest. Super happy with my purchase. For the $ the rest is an absolute steal. Love the rack n pinion feature. The shadetree top is just awesome. Now hopefully i can try it out next weekend weather permitting.

Glad you like it. Just do periodic maintenance on the BE rest by cleaning out the old grease and re-lubing. And remember to tighten all the knobs before shooting:)
