Bart’s 80 Grn Dominator In 6BRA.

I had a great day at Tomball to work with the 80 Grn Barts Dominator today.

I set back and rechambered to 6BRA another 1-12 Krieger that I had. It came out about 25 inches. This was a good barrel in regular 6BR.

I spent the morning working with three different powders, trying to find a upper end load of around 3400.

N135 proved to be just to fast. This 80 grain combination doesn’t like it. I tried some 2495, and it shot decent but a full case would not go over 3300.

So I worked with the 4895. It was shooting quite well with 33.0 grains at about 3320. I started going up in .2 increments, at 33.7 grns it started shooting really well, 3 shot groups in the mid to high “ones”. The velocity was averaging 3415 fps over my Ohler 35 chronograph.View attachment 1507660View attachment 1507661View attachment 1507662

At about 3:00PM, I moved out to 200 yards with my usual 5 Flag set. shot a Couple of 3-shot groups, adjusting the tune a little, then shot the three 5-Shot groups shown. One was in a straight away, the second in a gentle right to left, and the third in a gentle left to right.

As you can see, this combination is shooting pretty darned good. I wanted to see some “twos and threes”, it’s there.

It was a good day at the range.View attachment 1507663
Very nice! What throat were you using on this bbl?

So, I chambered up a 1-12 Krieger with the same .272 neck, (no turn), .104 free bore reamer
I was under the impression he chambered several different bbls since the beginning of this thread 3 weeks ago.

I started with a new 1-8 twist Krieger, but lacked any bullets, or powder, that it liked. I decided not to waste valuable range time hoping for a miracle.

I had several 1-12 twist Kriegers that had regular .060 throat BR chambers. These were good barrels that probably had 500 tp 600 rounds through them. I also have about 500 Barts 80 grn Bt’s.

So, I cut enough off of the chamber end to rechamber both with my 6BRA reamer with a .104, (by the print), throat. The reamer has a .272 neck, perfect for the Lapua Brass.

I just got in touch with Chris Mackey, who happens to have a new Bartlien 1-12 in HV profile, a check will be in the mail tomorrow.

So are you going set the new barrel up for your 17lb gun or 10.5lb gun?

@jackieschmidt just curious what speed you got with the N135, even though it didn’t work.

I’m working on a straight BR with 8208 and 80s right now and can’t get them much over 3200 period, nor over about 3140 accurately. Trying N135 has crossed my mind, but first I’m swapping from Hillbilly to Bart’s.

Granted, every bbl is different but it's hard to imagine you're pressured out with that combination when 3400 is my max in a straight 6 Grendel with 80 hillbillies. I mean max but the br shouldn't pressure out at the same speed as a Grendel...I wouldn't think.

I stopped at the low 3400 velocity because the accuracy really came in. I said I wanted to see some “twos” and “threes” at 200, when it hit that average 3415 I felt satisfied.

I figured 3400 was at least at the beginning of the upper load window.

I’m about finished with a 12tw 6bra for me and was planning on vv135 with 80’s because I’ve got a crap load and it’s been good in my 6brdx with them. will see how it goes may have to give 4895 a run. Thanks Jackie

What all didn't work well, in the 12 twist and the 80s?

Iv tried 133 all up and down with the 80s in a 12 twist, Id land on a decent spot but would be very narrow window of charge. Well, it seemed that way to me. I changed to 15.5 and had several days to range not had to change charges.
