Bart’s 80 Grn Dominator In 6BRA.

I chambered up one of my Neuvo Action Rifles in a 1-8 twist barrel two weeks ago to work with some 104 grn bullets.
It did not go well.

On a whim, I put some 80 grn Bart’s in it and it shot pretty darned good.

So, I chambered up a 1-12 Krieger with the same .272 neck, (no turn), .104 free bore reamer and headed to the range Sunday.

I didn’t have but about 3 hours of day light. I decided H4895 would be the best of what I have on hand.

I started at around 3250 fps my Ohler 35 Chronograph. I was about .010 off the lands. I kept going up, waiting for some pressure signs. When I got to 3360, it hit a sweet spot. That’s with 33.1 grns of 4895. I shot a couple of three shot groups adjusting my tuner, got it shooting round, then had just enough time to shoot these two five shot groups. One shot in the left to right, the other in right to left.

No pressure signs. I don’t think I am in the upper load window quite yet.

They are not the smallest in terms of Benchrest, but show a lot of promise. I plan on going to 200 yards next Sunday and fine tune it in. I have N135, N150 and 2495 to try as well.

This appears to be a good Combo. I am looking for something to the Tack Driver next year, (after all, we only have 10 1/2 months ‍).:)This 80 grn flying at 3360 might be it.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

I need to see some “Twos and Threes” at 200.

My bra did well with 80's also. So i went 90's expecting even better .... Not at all. I still have 400 of the 90's.
105's aren't doing well at 100 but better than the 90's.
A bullet & a half group. Im hoping they stabilize at 600 & shoot good score/ group combo.

My 80gr Dominator don't fly that fast, but I'm stuffing them in a 223 case.
The thought of loading them in the 6br has crossed my mind more than once.

I shot the 80 grn Dominators in my 6PPC throated to around .100. I shot a .213 agg at the Texas State HV that year. The velocity was 3220 fps with 4895. I considered that the upper load window.

This 6 BRA with the .104 throat has quite a bit more capacity, hence I think it should be going more like 3400. That would be, in my estimate, the upper load window.

But as I said, I need to see some “twos and threes” at 200.

Any updates on the 3400 upper node?200yds? Good news?

Lot of difference in 200 and 330. If your shooting a BR based case stick with the heavier high bc bullets . If conditions are dead, uncase a PPC.
How many PPCs shoot 80s at 3400 plus? I think his goal is to build a PPC killa! LOL

I agree what he is trying to do but I have shot a lot of short to mid range matches. When Mr Condition raises his ugly head I like bc. This is from guy who has won and set records at 500 yds matches with a PPC. Just my advice and opinon backed by hands on experience. A scratch 10 becomes a 9. A scratch 9 does not make........and your toast. I have the burn marks.

The Barts 80’s are pretty darned accurate in a PPC with a longer throat. I actually shot one two years ago And won the HV 100 at Seymour. I was shooting 4895 at around 3250. That was a hot load. The Agg was .213.

All I am doing now is seeing how well I can make them shoot at around 3400 out of a BRA.

This is primarily aimed at The Tack Driver, where BC does not play near as big of a roll as flag reading capabilities combined with a .200 capable Rifle.

Nothing is written in stone. I’m just having fun.

Bart likes your idea? What does that tell you??? LOL.

I had a great day at Tomball to work with the 80 Grn Barts Dominator today.

I set back and rechambered to 6BRA another 1-12 Krieger that I had. It came out about 25 inches. This was a good barrel in regular 6BR.

I spent the morning working with three different powders, trying to find a upper end load of around 3400.

N135 proved to be just to fast. This 80 grain combination doesn’t like it. I tried some 2495, and it shot decent but a full case would not go over 3300.

So I worked with the 4895. It was shooting quite well with 33.0 grains at about 3320. I started going up in .2 increments, at 33.7 grns it started shooting really well, 3 shot groups in the mid to high “ones”. The velocity was averaging 3415 fps over my Ohler 35 chronograph.IMG_2537.jpegIMG_2536.jpegIMG_2534.jpeg

At about 3:00PM, I moved out to 200 yards with my usual 5 Flag set. shot a Couple of 3-shot groups, adjusting the tune a little, then shot the three 5-Shot groups shown. One was in a straight away, the second in a gentle right to left, and the third in a gentle left to right.

As you can see, this combination is shooting pretty darned good. I wanted to see some “twos and threes”, it’s there.

It was a good day at the range.image.jpg

Great stuff, keep it coming. This thread reminded me to go back and re-read JamesnTN's thread testing Bart's 80gr in 6BRA 12 twist with 8208 XBR. Patiently and excitedly waiting for my first 80gr Dominators to be pulled. 6BRA barrel coming soon and I have a pile of Grendel brass making me want to try Grinch, also.
