BARRELS — PacNor Experience?

The recent post regarding ACE Barrels in the pacific northwest got me thinking about PACNOR barrels, also from that area. I virtually never see any discussion of them nor do I see folks in my area (Northeast) using them. I had a friend who had one on a Panda and it shot fantastically. Just so far away geographically that they are "out of sight, out of mind?"

I have a pacnor polygonal that Tad fit for my primary RFBR rifle midseason in 2019. Testing was very good but I decided I didn't want to learn a new barrel at the time. I have not went back to it and should. Slugged very good and I feel like it was a winner with just a little more testing.

I have a friend that has used 4-5 Pac-Nor’s on F Open rifles and all have shot fantastic. I would not hesitate to use one for any type of serious competition.

This site exists because 20 years ago I put a 6mmBR PacNor 3-groove prefit on my Savage. With that 27” barrel my Savage shot consistently in the low twos, and set a range record on my club’s steel mini silhouette course. Oh and I found the 3-groove amazingly easy to clean.

That rifle inspired me to start 6mmBR.com, which became AccurateShooter.com.

I have a .14, .17 and .22 all 3 groove and a .30 5 groove PacNor barrels. Happy with all of them, they were all available fairly quickly with no surprises.

I had a rifle barreled in 6.5-284 by Pac Nor a few years ago and it shot extremely well.
I also had a rifle built by another gunsmith using their 20 caliber 3 groove and it provided excellent results as well.
Their shop burned a while back and they had kind of gotten "forgotten" but I used them about two years ago to match the length and contour on a Weatherby 22-250 SVM. They did a great job and in a time frame that exceeded expectations.

Greg, I have a PacNor twisted 1:18 on my new Hunter gun chambered in 30BR. Interestingly, it came with a dark colored bore which PacNor advised me was a process they do to aid in break in. Now, I have my own way of conditioning a bore before firing a shot that shortens the break in. ;) But on this one, I decided to follow their advice for break in.

After the 6th shot, it completely quit fouling. The dark lands and grooves are now shiny.

I’ve had two hunting rifles with PacNor barrels. A 6.5x47 and a 6mmBr. I wouldn’t hesitate to use use them.

Both were 1/2” at 160 yds. I no longer have the x47, but the 6br is my close deer rifle with a 1-4 scope.

They've become my go-to source for barrels now for going on 25 years. My next one will come from them too. I've had them blueprint actions, bedding, and do complete builds. Never an issue, always very pleased with the outcome.

I've shot PD's with Chris in the past, and he's a great guy to be around too.

Al,
Thanks for the heads up on the dark bore. I have one on order for one of my VfS rifles.
