barrel

I've had very good luck with and have no complaints against Lilja, Kreiger, and shilen. And there are a BUNCH of other good ones.

I have both hunting and target barrels by all 3 manufacturers all in stainless and one CM from Shilen.

A lot of shooters will go on forever about one over the other ::) ... but in my humble opinion the gunsmith that does the work and the person operating the rifle will make more of a difference than the barrel brand itself most of the time. Again, just my humble opinion. :)

OBTW, I have a VERY good friend that lives in your fair town. Have been there quite a few times. WD

Here we go again. Get a brand name cut rifle and get it chambered correctly. If it does not shoot well, it will be operator error.

Thats just not always the case. Barrels vary some even between the best of the barrel makers, just ask them and they will be honest about that. Many serious Point Blank benchrest shooters by barrels in lots of 20 or 25 hoping to get one or two "Hummers" out of that number. I have seen many, many of them reject a barrel that shots in the .2's, why because .2 is not going to win very many Benchrest matches. Accuracy is complettly relative to the sport or the type of shooting you are planning on doing.

In Point Blank Benchrest accuracy needs to "START" in the 1 tenth area. Long Range Benchrest needs an honest 1/2 MOA, that will get you on the stage most of the time. Silhoutte thats a 2 MOA game. And the list goes on and on.

The Best Barrel makers try there best to make the very best barrel they can, it simple is not possible for them to do it every time......

I've had Shelan, Kreiger, Spencer, and Hart. All shot very well. Key is having the chamber reamed for the bullet you intend to shoot and put together by a good 'smith.

Cut or buttoned is a subject for another day, but I really haven't seen any difference on the target.
