I will say the last Kimber rifle I owned was a disappointment. It did meet all my criteria for a lightweight hunting rifle but, so-so accuracy aside, it always had a problem with proper extraction and ejection. A trip back to Kimber didn't cure it either. It was a shame too, as I had long waited for just the "right" rifle in 257 Bob. It has been replaced by a sweet red pad Ruger #1.Its a factory production gun no matter what it costs. How many customers care what barrel is on it?
But our resident douglas employee said they didnt use douglasOlder Kimber barrels, at least the rifles, were made by Douglas. These days {as of two or three years ago} they make their own. A borescope will easily tell...older barrels are button rifled and the ones made in house by Kimber are cut rifled. They are distinctive inside, the grooves are rather rough and the tops of the lands, the flat, is honed with a Sunnen bore hone and looks just like an engines fresh finished crosshatched cylinders. I have several Kimber rifles, both old and new {bet you couldn't guess!!} and they all shoot pretty damn good.

Turns out Kimber was chambering .22lr barrels in .22 Hornet. I never shot it again and sold it as quick as I could.

If they did by Douglas barrels it was well before my time unless they bought them from the Independent contractor that ordered our blanks and turn them for them.Interesting. Kimber says they did at one time.
