Barrel Vise

I did not have anything flat or true enough to use as the spacer and wanting to get started decided to bore the hole then put each half back in the mill and remove an equal amount from the mating surfaces to create the gap needed.
Will this work in your opinion?

Any shim will work. They are not going to touch, so any material will work.

When I make a Rem700 action wrench, it is like making a barrel vise with a long handle.

A few years ago, I bought one from a guy on eBay that makes them. I am very happy with mine and never have had any barrel slip in it. The seller's name on eBay is wallycooper. I just looked on eBay and he has lots of them for sale right now.

I switched from hardened 1/2-13 bolts, that were breaking, to 7/8-14 threaded rod.
