Barrel vise recommendation

Recently purchased the Bravo Barrel Vise from Short Action Customs complete kit. Great quality and comes with 5 aluminum inserts. Also really like the arca mounting base.
These look nice and handy! I question the ability to "hold" on some stubborn barrels though??

I can only speak from my personal experience- no issues with torq to 90ft/lbs. Couldn’t find any negative reviews when I was trying to decide on a vise. SAC’s reputation is another reason I wasn’t too worried about it not performing - they make some great products and have had nothing but positive interactions with them.

I bought a Viper vise after reading positive reviews about it. I found it very lacking in trying to get anything but a savage apart. I went to the Brownells barrel vise with the aluminum bushings and have been very pleased with it. Even the most stubborn rust crusted Mauser barrels come off with relative ease with that one.

You may have the model with two bolts. I was originally picturing the model with a hinge and only one Allen head bolt. I agree that your model should be just as tough as everyone else's ;)

2nd the H frame hydraulic press. I made forms for the barrel by using a hole saw in a piece of 2x4 then cut it in half. Put powdered sugar on barrel and wrapped in paper. Came off easy! If I was going to do this more than a couple of times I'd probably get a vise

I've always used the Brownells vise and have no complaints. Even factory barrels are no problem if you get the right bushing.

I would buy the SAC vise on sale if I had a lot of years to live and planned on multiple barrels. I have a Viper I bought from Bruno's. Be aware that even with paper or whatever if you are using this with a Cerakoted barrel it will make marks. I had a new barrel that had been Cerakoated graphite matte black and wrapped with drywall tape and wound up having to send back for re coating. In retrospect, if I had known, I would have bought something with inserts that grip the barrel circumferentially instead of leaving four longitudinal lines 90 degrees apart in the newly applied matte Cerakoat. I did talk to the guy from Viper and he was supposed to put a caveat in his website.

My experience with the Davidson mirrors your Viper.

I bought the cheaper SAC and it’s been good thus far, I’ve done two barrels with cerakote and it will leave a mark on top of the cerakote but you can rub it off with your fingers.
