Barrel Vise pads

What are some of you using on your barrel vises to prevent scuffing polished barrels?

I've been using a little bit of paper but seems that some of the highly polished barrels still get a bit marred.

And I happen to have some laying around from making a woodworking vice jaw, never thought of using it, thanks, you may have saved some bling-bling barrels.

I found some nylon pads with longitudinal grooves made for holding barrels in a vise on Ebay. Cheap too. I inlet and glued magnets in them so that they stay in the jaws securely. Do a search for vise jaw pads and they should come up.
You could also buy an aluminum barrel vise and use them in a vise instead of bolting them down just to hold the barrel for work.

I use the neoprene sheets sold at the local hardware store. They come in 4" squares and I cut them to size. They are realitively thin which make it easy to layer.

Wilton Magnafix, removeable and magnetic. Happy with this, u dont always want rubber protection pads, these are easy to use.

I've been re-barreling rifles for about 20 years and have never owned a barrel vise. I do have a good pipe vise and I make brass and aluminum split bushings for jaws. I use a piece of card stock type paper wrapped around the barrel, inside of the bushings. This works great for me and if you do happen to run into one that is just super tight, if the barrel is junk anyway, just don't use the bushings at all. It'll certainly marr the barrel but it has never slipped, either. Lol!
