Barrel Vice

Note arbor inside receiver to prevent crushing.

Is your action wrench back away from the barrel tenon such that tightening the wrench does not squeeze the action threads around the tenon?

I make 2" long collets of 1.5" Aluminum alloy round stock. Some collets get an inside taper.
I saw slits from both ends.
Grade 5 bolts in 1/2-13 were snapping off.
I switched to 7/8-14 and now have no problems.
It took 560 foot pounds of torque to get a Mosin barrel off. That was with 200 ft pounds of torque on the nuts. I had to use cornstarch to increase the coefficient of friction.
