barrel twist

I went prarie dog hunting in Oklahoma and got addicted with one fix. I called Hart and he recommended a 6mm br with a 1 in 12 twist for 68 to 70 gr. bullets for ranges out to 500 yds or so. Then I got recommended to this site to read about the caliber. After reading everything I can find, I am wondering if my 1 in 12 barrel is going to shoot anything but a 68 to 70 gr bullet. Is shooting a heaver or lighter bullet going to actually hurt the barrel? Are any of you guys shooting a heaver or lighter bullet in your 1 in 12?

I appreciate the reply, however, my question is "does anyone have any experience shooting a lighter bullet or a heavier bullet in a 1 in 12." Will shooting lighter or heavier bullets in anyway harm the barrel?

Shooting lighter or heavier bullet won't harm the barrel in any way, provided the powder charge is safe. The 75gr Vmax should work fine in your 1:12. John S. of www.VarmintsForFun.com has had good luck with this bullet in a 1:10, and Richard Franklin has used it in both 1:12 and 1:14 I believe.

Here's Richard's web site: http://www.richardscustomrifles.com/

Mark Schronce had good luck with the 80gr Fowlers in a Lilja 12-twist: "Richard Franklin, of Richard’s Custom Rifles, was chosen to install a Lilja 12 twist barrel on my Hall action rifle, chambered in 6mm BR,with a .262" neck and Harrell's Precision muzzle brake).

I ordered 68gr and 80gr Bergers, 68gr Barts, and 80gr Fowlers. They'd be loaded into turned Lapua brass and tested with Vihtavuori N-135, Varget, Benchmark, and Fed 205 primers. Once load testing started, I found the 68 Barts, and 80 Bergers with N-135 to be a stand out. But when the 80 Fowlers finally arrived, they quickly took the lead with groups running .1" at 100yds and .250" at 200 yards. The load of 30.0gr N-135, Fed 205, at 3200fps out shot everything, hands down."
