Barrel "rings"

That word “camera” in the photo is also not part of the barrel, guys.

I have checked others. No rings.

I’d take a long piece of straw from a broom and while watching it with the scope, push it to the exact spot of the ring. Tape it in place, then put scope in from the other end of the barrel and see if the end of the straw and the ring still coincide.

Set that endoscope out about 100 yards and shoot it with the barrel in question. Problem solved and no more ring. After that, save up for a Hawkeye and look at the inside with your own eye!

The barrel shoots, targets prove it.
Stop looking for a problem where one dosen't exist.
Or split that puppy down the middle and take a real look at it.
I personally will never scope one of my barrels. As long as they shoot as I want them to, when the day come they dont....
See ya by, time for a new one.

Here's something I do with my endoscope to get a better look down the barrel. I put a cleaning rod in the muzzle end, sometimes with a jag on it, sometimes not and let it reflect the light from the camera. You'll brightly illuminate the rifling all the way down the barrel as you slide the cleaning rod back and forth towards the camera.

Works quit well for me.

Never said I was looking for a problem. I said I was trying to figure out what they were.

I'm betting Frank hit it, drill Mark's that the bore reamer never completely removed.

Wouldn't drill marks only show on the top of the lands? The grooves would be cut away during rifling, removing any trace of drill marks from that area, no?

Not necessarily, a button rifle process irons the rifling in the bore. It does not cut them.

If theres a ring left by machining whether drill or reamer and not taken out before pulling the button it will still be there after. I'm sure Frank has seen it or he wouldn't have mentioned it and I'm sure Stan has too.
Well if the ring was evident in a reamed hole it would never be rifled in our shop plain an simple it's a optical illusion what he is seeing.

I'm not an expert on making barrels but I beieve the procedure is as follows.
1. The barrel blank is drilled.
2. The drilled hole is reamed.
3. If it's cut rifling a cutting tool is pulled thru the bore while it's rotated. I assume it cuts both land and grooves. This cutting would remove any reamer marks.
4. Next the barrel is lapped with an abrasive by pulling the lapping compound back and forth in the bore. No rotation. All scratches straight down thee barrel.
On cut rifled barrel the groove is cut an then lapped to get rid of reamer marks an lapped to final dimensions.

It appears to me you prefer to engage in passive-aggressive behavior when you encounter unexpected difficulties or perceived disrespect.

There are sharks in this pond. Best to not do any bleeding.
Maybe the adults here can move on and become just that....adults. stop judging people by a name and rather by their character, especially when you know nothing about them.

Again, not an optical scientist but if a lighted distortion or "illusion" is created by a light source, which is a reflection of that light, it should change with the movement of that light source. These do not.

Here is what a ring looks like in a reamed hole this barrel was never rifled you would never fill out the lands an groove.
